Is this the real reason for the war in Iraq?

Well, that is new and different!  I must say amusing as well.

But in all seriousness, Israel already demonstrated they could take out Iraq, so forgive me if I am a tad bit skeptical.

Here's my opinion on the matter:

Short answer - Yes.

Long answer - Partially yes, but not in the way some would like to portray it. One of Al Qaeda's favorite citations against the United States the state of the Palestinians and the intifada, which this time around was nothing but a terrorism campaign. Saddam was instigator. He did his part to ensure the intifada continued. With Saddam out of the way the instigation has been greatly reduced. It's a lot harder for Zawahiri and Bin Laden to whip up followers when the Palestinians themselves aren't taking the same roads they did before. Personally I have my doubts as to how much the Al Qaeda leadership and the rest of the Arab and Moslem world really cares about the Palestinians. The Jordanians fought a brutal war against them, and the Palestinian migration into Lebanon following this war was the cause of that country's long civil war. Reminds me of so many white liberals who say they care about minorities and the poor, but would never want to live around them if they didn't have to. Pro-Israel does not inherently mean Anti-America.

This viewpoint is not new. I heard people arguing this well before the war started; probably as early as late summer of 2002. It gets backing from two very different groups:

A. Communists (and nihilists, anarchists, and socialists) who hate America regardless of what she does.
B. Neo-Nazi organizations (Nazis, Aryan Nations, National Alliance, White Aryan Resistance) who see the Jew as the primary enemy of the world.

For the Communists and their set, this is a proxy argument. For the Neo-Nazi sets, this is a matter of trying to identify and isolate their enemy. This issue itself and how it relates to the American public is immaterial.

Ok, putting it that way, I can see the point.  You did a lot better explaining it than the article did.  I can buy that.  politics is as much intrigue as it is overt posturing.  Got to give you an insightful for that one.

I should read more of your stuff!  I will look for it in the future.  Needless to say, repetition is not bad when it punctuates a good point.

Your camps are extremes, and I would hope that I was in neither. That is why I explained my rationale.

I think what you are trying to say is different. I'd say the Osiraq bombing was an inspiration, not a reason.

What these two camps are trying to say is that Israel is the master of the US. That its lobby is so strong that they could make the president of the United States send troops to fight a war the Israel wants but America doesn't. That's completely different from what you're saying.

In addition to sending Americans to die for Israel's security, the politicians are also doing it for oil - oil for Israel!
