Website Q: What's a referral

Underneath thread topic-starters there is a referral button. What's that about?

It shows you when someone links to your article or forum post from an outside site. For example if someone does a Google search for GC2 and they find a link to one of your threads and click on it, you'll see a referral from Google. You'll also get referals listed from any of the SD family of websites (JoeUser, WinCustomize, TotalGaming.net).

It just lets you know that people from "the outside" are reading your stuff.

why did you not just look in a dictionary instead of wasting space here?

This question should be answered, so here is the answer in three parts.
1). Post #3 is at least an equal waste of space, possibly more so because it attempts to deter people from posting.
2). If the thread topic occured to me, it probably ocurred to others as well
3). A dictionary definition of the word "referral" suggests there is only one applicable use of the word in this context. Checking a dictionary (as you have not done) would not answer the question posted in this thread. Try it.
