Masked/Unmasked

Twin Poems...based on some recent articles around here...you know what they are... :D

Masked

Putting on a mask,
Before facing the world.
Keeping hidden what hurts,
Hiding from society what tears through my soul.

I don’t want you to worry,
So I rot away inside.
My pain is not your problem,
So I die a bit everyday.

I won’t speak,
I don’t want to see,
You lose your smile,
Because you think about me.

I can’t come forward,
To you, my friend,
I love you so much,
How can I share this with you?

You’re so strong,
And I am weak,
Please don’t make me tell you.
I deserve to toil and deal with my problems.

I need help,
But I can’t ask you.
You’re better than that,
You shouldn’t bother with me.

Unmasked

You are hurting so,
Why don’t you tell me what bothers you?
I know there’s pain inside,
Please talk to me,
Please confide.

I will share with you,
My secrets,
My pain.
We are all the same,
You are not the only one,
With problems to conceal.

Please,
I beg you,
Speak of your ills to me.
I will help you,
I am here for you.

Do not fret,
My friend.
You are not lesser than me,
We are equal,
You and I.

Our problems we can share,
With shoulders to cry on.
I love you,
And I know you do me,
Let us not hide what the world throws at us,
We are not alone,
We have each other at the very least.

Heh...funny you should say that. I hold the perception from unmasked...my friends are pretty much the first one.

Wonderful writing Zoo. I love the way you shifted the real issue between the two poems and gave them two different perspectives.

We all live behind masks… because sometimes, a person only shows another what they’re ready to see. We all pretend to be someone else…so the person you think you know, might not be.

Though these masks sometimes are necessary for everyone else’s happiness. So a person hides in vain to protect everyone else from their pain. Masks are good, maybe not for the person wearing it… but has proved to be helpful for others. So helpful, others never acknowledged their existence or forgot they were alive.

Masks, oh… such a beautiful thing. It’s easy to hide who you are… the hard part is to show everyone the real you. These masks are protection, and for some people…. Will probably never be removed.

Again, nice poem Zoo.

Thanks shadow...I wish we didn't have to put on masks...but sometimes it helps, though I believe it hurts more than helps.

It helps the people who don't have to deal with the problems.... but it absolutely tears apart the person wearing it.

Thanks for those poems. I agree, I wish I had a friend who would let me take my mask off. Or at least a friend who I trust. Or a friend who gives a damn.

No, what I really wish is to be able to take off my mask. I think plenty of people have tried to see what's behind it. But after so many years of faking it...how can I be myself?

Some day you'll be able to....admitting you do this to yourself is the first step to unveiling yourself.
