States Debate Photo IDs at Polls

INDIANAPOLIS -- Legislation that would require voters to show photo identification before casting ballots has touched off fierce debate in three states, with opponents complaining the measures represent a return to the days of poll taxes and Jim Crow.

Lawmakers in Georgia and Indiana walked off the job to protest the proposals, which they say would deprive the poor, the elderly and minorities of the right to vote. Wisconsin Gov. Jim Doyle, a Democrat, has already vetoed a similar measure and has vowed to do so again.

It's amazing someone would be against this, but then again, democrats are against anything it seems. It's great how democrats always cry voter fraud, then when someone proposes something like this, they use the "it's going to hurt poor people" arguement.

I hope to god this passes everywhere. I wish the knuckleheads in Congress had made this part of the Help America to Vote act when it passed. Honestly, I don't understand how the Republicans that control the House and Senate haven't passed this as a national requirement.

It burns my butt to think that there are cheaters out there that are going to vote at multiple polling places because they weren't asked to supply a picture id with a name and address that matched the one on the voter registration system.

One man, one vote PERIOD.
