Galactic Civilizations II wishlist poll results

Just an FYI

We took a poll of 866 potential Galactic Civilizations II buyers on which feature they most wanted in Galactic Civilizations II.

The results were:

Ship Design: 38%
Fleet Battles: 21%
Better Colony Management: 15%
Multplayer: 12%
3D Engine: 8%
Space Terrain: 7%

So we looked at these things when deciding what features to put into Galactic Civilizations II and looked at the cost of developing them.  On a scale from 1 to 10 with 10 being most expensive here is how much these features cost to put in:

Ship Design: 5
Fleet Battles: 4
Better Colony Management: 5
Multiplayer: 10
3D Engine: 3
Space Terrain: 2

The big new features of Galactic Civilizations II are:

The ship design, which we think goes further than any similar game (or any strategy game for that matter) ever.

A completely new way of handling colonies:

Fleets and Fleet battles (still in development)

And we needed a 3D engine anyway to implement much of the other things we wanted to have in there (resolution independence, fluid zoom-in out, much fancier ship design options, etc.

desired feature. Whereas if people were allowed to vote for every choice by ranking, then people would be able to express their feature-priority for all the choices listed.

Just something to consider. Thanks again for this information.

plementing, it would look like the latter. Since it doesn't look expensive, it might make it into the game?

tle survey cards you fill out at many fast food restaurants, so I don't think there's any danger of frightening people

... it's that we're just too lazy.

that may make it into the final game.

I mean, really, is it so different to click once vs. click six times? If that's too much work, that's just really sad in my opinion.

rd because they're happy and content. The forums don't match reality by a long shot in those cases.

That will give a better answer of just who desires MP, among other features. Does that seem fair enough?

well me ship design and mp comes right down the bottom being normaly a casual gamer not a l33t gamer who loves to always be top of the tree.

I much rather prefer stardocks metaverse system where if you want you can bask in a high number in the metaverse but I can still win against the ai as I set it and not get beaten down by some elite gamer whom spends 10 hrs a day playing the game as I spend 10 hrs a day working

Me? I like getting a beating. Bring on the pain. Seriously though, in a lot of games where I play against players and lose, I like to consider what I did right, what I did wrong, and how I might win the next time. It's part of the fun for me. As for Multiplayer, I love to play TBS games with my friends, but I also play vs the computer. For me, both would be needed to fully satisfy me. I never played Civ2 till a friend introduced me to Multiplayer Gold. I even thought civ 1 was boring single player. What I would like to see in multiplayer is a hybrid game, where you can play a game on tcp/ip or ipx, then hang up the gloves. Then in the mean time if you want, play by e-mail untill a time that you can both get back online again. Also, if you have an online matchmaking service, give an online ranking system so that other players could have some information to base who they want to play with on. Preferably something a little more descriptive than Player has won X games, and lost X games. That system there can be deceptive, especially if a player only plays with lower ranked players, and has played a lot (and still sucks compared to high levels) or if they're really good, but only play high levels and get whooped all the time. Chess has a good system that is pretty descriptive. Maybe something like that.

Geez, sorry, I seem to have rambled on. What I meant to say is I got into TBS games because of the multiplayer component. Single player is fun for me for a while, but not forever, so it is important to me.
