Outlaw Cats now!!! - Cat shoots owner
More gun control needed, right?

Sorry all you cat lovers, but it's obvious that cats are dangerous creatures. When a cat is able to shoot it's owner, things have gone too far. Cats are too dangerous to keep as domesticated pets, and we must ban them all and never again allow one to be kept as a pet. We must protect ourselves from these killer creatures. Bad enough that some people have allergies to them. Bad enough that some cats don't know how to behave in the litter box area. Bad enough that some cats kill rodents and drop the carcasses to show their human companions what great hunters they are. Now cats are arming themselves with guns and taking actual firing practice at their owners.

Cat Shoots Owner

BATES TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - A man cooking in his kitchen was shot after one of his cats knocked his 9mm handgun onto the floor, discharging the weapon, Michigan State Police said.
Joseph Stanton, 29, of Bates Township in Iron County, was shot in his lower torso around 6 p.m. Tuesday, the state police post in Iron River reported. He was transported to Iron County Community Hospital.
Michelle Sand, a spokeswoman at the Iron River hospital, said Stanton was treated there before being transferred to Marquette General Hospital for further treatment. But Marcie Miller, a representative of the Marquette facility, said there was no record of the hospital receiving a patient by that name.
A telephone message seeking comment was left Wednesday at Stanton's home.
State police said he was cooking at his stove when the cat knocked the loaded gun off the kitchen counter behind him.
We must outlaw these killers and stop them before they shoot someone else.
Or... maybe the answer is more gun control laws, right? Just pass laws that forbid cats from buying weapons. Make the cats go through a 2 week waiting period before buying guns? Though we'd probably have to allow for gun show loopholes since some cats might need a gun immediately to take out some dangerous mouse that they are worried about.
Maybe better gun control laws for stupid owners? Laws that require owners to be smarter about putting their weapons away, about leaving the safety on when not in use. Or maybe we need to not allow cat owners to buy guns, since there is obviously the potential for problems.
More laws damn-it! More laws. I demand more, more, more.
Or... finally, maybe the most sensical solution - better gun safety education. Maybe even (and heaven forgive me for suggesting this) some mandated gun safety training before people are allowed to get weapons.
In reading the original article I'm reminded of how idiotic a former governor of the state of Maryland was. Liberal Democrat Parris Glendening lobbied the state legislature for a gun safety training class requirement and the legislature delivered. Unfortunately, in delivering it, the gun lobby (aka the NRA) successfully lobbied for a change in the bill that allowed that the NRA or other recognized gun safety experts would become the recognized trainers for the programs that would be created. To me, this made sense. Let gun experts teach others how to safely handle weapons and make it mandatory for anyone that wanted to purchase a gun to show they had completed a certain number of hours of training before they were permitted to purchase a weapon. The classes were to be free or very low cost. What was to lose?
Well, with the NRA permitted to be providers of the training, the same governor that demanded the bill in the first place vetoed it. Baby, bath water, both tossed aside. Instead of swallowing a little, the governor tossed that common sensical approach by the way side because the NRA might, just might somehow perform some membership drive activities in a tangental way if they were to provide this training.
Seriously, in the case of the individual that was shot by this cat (or the cats knocking the weapon off the counter), some training might have helped. I'd love to see more training required before people are permitted to purchase a weapon. It might actually help avoid problems like this, without leaving the country with the problem of banning all cats.
