Outpost

How about an outpost ship and structure? Wouldn't be as big as a colony ship, but could let you 'claim' a planet by getting a tile on it. Of course we don't want people outpost rushing...

Your post contains the answer to your question : allowing cheap colony claiming will lead to early planet rushing.

ired effect (claiming planets / ability to rush territory) is no problem anymore. (Side note: MoO2 couldn't have implemented this solution, because MoO2 had no starbases.)

e how this would add to our fun. Could you try giving an in game example of where or how this would add to the fun of playing GC?

post", without being a "development outpost", could exist for military / economic / other reasons just as a starbase may bring certain facilities. But it would stop others from coming on the planet only to a certain extent: diplomatical.

could be as simple as increasing the cost of a starbase outside your influence zone.

as a staging point then.

You could have build a starbase to extend the range of your ships.

I still fail to see the point of adding outposts besides colonies and starbases.

The worst possible thing would be the computer AI with outpost ships.

You don't want to hand something like that to something that is designed to mathematically calculate the fastest way to do something.

But Brad... they don't want the AI to change. Just give the players a way to better exploit the game. You know, to make it more fun.

. You know, to make it more fun.

Well, don't forget that the AI play the same game than you. So if you can do something, you must accept that the AI will do the same.

If you're looking for a way to give yourself an advantage over the AI, all you have to do is turn the difficulty level down.

ry new things. But Brad and his people do occasionally update it with an newer strategy now and then.

ht for them. I should steal their telescopes and kidnap their astronomers or something.
