Keys to Being a Fulfilled Housewife

Keys to being a fulfilled housewife:

1) Be a Self-Starter
2) Enjoy the work
3) Always stay busy, unless taking well-earned rest sessions

I came up with that list in my own head as I was buzzing around the house today getting things done. I know it's amazing.

It’s a work ethic that any employer would love to see. I guess that’s why it’s been said that being a homemaker is the toughest job in the world. Of course that’s been said about a lot of occupations…teaching, postal service, Siegfried & Roy…

But one thing I’ve heard that I do believe, is that if a homemaker did everything she ought to do, and did extremely well at it, and were compensated monetarily for her work, she would be earning beaucoups bucks. (See this: Link.) Of course, I do get compensated for my work; I can live like a queen if I choose to, I can set my own hours, I can do as much or as little as I want to on any given day, I can express myself creatively…it’s great. I forgot to mention that I have a roof over my head, food in my belly, a car to drive, and a really cute baby boy...all because my husband loves me. Now that's compensation.

As far as not earning money is concerned, well, I've earned plenty of dough before my housewife days. Although I have nothing to show for it anymore, I'm happier now, doing what I want to do. When I was running in the rat race, and getting sick of working my butt off for a corporation that sucked at least 40 hours per week of my life away, I remember commenting to a friend, "You know, I'd love to just run errands and get things done that are important to me, instead of slaving away at this company for someone else's benefit. I can be really productive when left to my own devices." She just laughed, "So you want to get paid to do 'your own thing'? Yeah, right."

I'm so glad that I can be a housewife. I accept that I may not always be so fortunate. I may have to go back to the daily grind at some point in the near or distant future, but I'm enjoying my time now. I've found my Utopia. And I'm not ashamed to say that I've found it through being a housewife. Some women come up with official-sounding synonyms for what they do, you know, so it looks impressive on a resumé. It's a shame that some women are embarrassed that "all they do" is nurture their families. What a wonderful thing it is to be able to be a nurturer!

As eternally-minded as I am, I tend to view money & prestige as paling in significance when compared to one's true worth as a human. When we die, the money & success we've accumulated won't mean much. What's in our hearts & the good things we've done will truly matter.

I think your site looks interesting. I read a few entries. Also looked at a link called, "To have children or not to have children." Something like that. But the procedure to sign in and log in looks too complicated right now! (kids just home from school. )

Thanks for visiting my site. Yeah, I've seen those blurbs about how much you'd have to pay to replace a housewife. Interesting.

It's funny. I tend to call myself a stay-at-home mom. But really I'm a housewife, too. Smile. I just started working part-time from my home in the last few months. But primarily I'm in charge of the house and kids. It is a heck of a lot of mindless work. I enjoy it mostly, but have a hard time being motivated sometimes with the housework itself. I'd rather be outside with my kids. Smile.
