Idea for star utilization

In case there is none already

Hi,

First of all I'm very excited so far about the game good work

Now getting to my point. Seeing how the stars are part of the map I thought of an awsome way to utilize them. I'm not sure if there is such a thing as a star gate planned for this game but this would be ideal thing to use the stars for! Using the massive gravity of the star to bend space-time and create worm-holes that allow ships to pass between systems would add a new degree of strategy in the game and speed up the late game keeping it from dragging out too long. You would be able to build a stargate that would orbit the star but in close proximity so that in actual gameplay it would rest right on top of the star graphic. Of course this would be available after much research so as not to ruin the initial phase of the game. The stargate could be used to speed up commerce or to send reinforcements to a system under innimate threat. It could also spell disaster if it fell to enemy hands and they used it to bring their own reinforcements. There is also possibility of creating an event that would allow you or the enemy to use one of their enemy's gates by obtaining access codes via espionage. This could provide a short window of opportunity to strike and cripple your worst enemy... or to turn on your ally and weaken him so you can gain the upperhand.

Anyone I thought of this yesterday and I figured its an awsome idea. You should atleast consider it.

handle it correctly? Does we really want to have heavily defended worlds against any invasion?
And if the AI know how to use the stargates correctly, you may have a pretyy hard time to invade their planets

send something through a stargate than to put it on a ship with Hyperdrive.

Seems that I owe the writers of the backstory an apology then.

From where do you have this information? (just curious)

Stargates are too powerful. A better idea is to have teleportation using black holes, but not being able to create one. That way blackholes become a point of strategic value, and the game stays balanced.

i got that quote from this page: Link
It's in the encyclopedia section of the GalCiv site. There are also pages about the Yor, the Altarians, the Drengin, and the Torians.

the Universe as a whole... think the Electron Pump issue from Asimov's The Gods Themselves)

Either way, they could be immensely interesting to work with within the game.
