dont buy one til you try this. boot into dos (if youre using xp, you'll have to figure out how to do that yourself cuz im not that familiar with the process...altho im guessin you can find a version of ms-dos or caldera and burn it onto a self-booting cd)...put a floppy into the drive, and then use the dos copy command to copy at least one file onto the floppy. if that doesnt work, try switching to your a:\ drive and run the dos dir command.

while it's possible your a drive is permanently dead, windows has a bad habit of locking floppy drives. copying to or from the floppy in dos can unlock it. you cant do it in windows so...

you could also try booting into safe mode and the going to the cmd prompt and copying a file to the floppy that way (if you're just trying to find out if your floppy is dead)

tigerdirect.com is a site i visit regularly and computers4sure.com is another, and you might want to think about a usb floppydrive due the fact as mentioned above that windows xp doesnt like internal floppys that much..

Tried cleaning it?..::laughs:: Most of the time thats all you need to do..they get dirty, like everything else and just wont read.. "A" drives seem to last forever and a day, I would almost bet all you need to do is run a cleaner in it.

Zero.

maybe you should look to see if the floppy IDE cable is hooked up properly. Also check if the floppy power cable is plugged in the right way(cause its really easy to plug it incorrectly). If that doesn't work, I dont know guess you should go to www.newegg.com or something
