For those with High End Equipment...

I've seen several journal entries lately regarding revamping textures, polygons, etc. to work properly on low end video hardware. Speaking as someone with high end equipment (2.6Ghz P4 @2.8, 1GB PC3200 Ram, Radeon X800 XT), I would greatly appreciate if the high end textures remain as an option in the game for those with hardware capable of supporting it. I am in no way suggesting that low end systems get ignored, just that options be maintained to make the most out of modern hardware. Personally, I always like to see new games come out with graphics settings that can go beyond the current generation of hardware, as I find myself revisiting some of these games a few upgrades down the road.

t though, barring ships/starbases, this isn't going to be a game like Doom 3 or HL2 that requires a major hardware boost due to all the 3d graphics. This game will almost inherently allow for lower end systems.

I prefer when games are created for high end systems, then options are added to "Scale down" to lower systems. But then again, I don't think people using 1Ghz machines should be dictating how games are made these days. Upgrade, its not expensive, sheesh.

Always bugs me when developers downgrade their games to fit into low spec machines at the price of visual quality for those people with high end machines. Hope that doesn't happen here.

high-quality settings. And if I still have to upgrade my hardware ... well, parts to make a 2 year old game run smoothly really aren't expensive.

as its fun, has depth, and lots of strategy then this will be the 4x game I have been looking for.

at way, everyone is happy, and this debate is fairly pointless.

As a further mention, because I can already see the response to my post. Textures and polygons have little direct coherence to each other. Textures are like paint. Polys like framework/models.

hat was my understanding of hos Galciv 2 worked graphical wise. I would really appreciate it though if a dev would come in and clear up the confusion.

. I believe we are talking more along the lines of high quality textures and models for the high end (so it looks nice), and not an entirely different engine for planet surface etc. (right?)

e graphics in GC2 aren't photo-realistic. Or even anime riot of color breath robbing.

Star Pilot I agree to your post, except the point #2.
Great graphics do not disappear in time from the gaming experience. Bad 3D do.

ally better. After all, Stardock's supposed to be a bastion of customizability in a world of conformity

le that it would take to implement that boggles my mind.  That'd be like putting an entirely different game inside of GalCiv2.

Thanks for the reassurance, CariElf.

aphics created a great atmosphere. They wern't anything too special. For instance you could see the wake behind your ship, sometimes you'ld see dolphins jumping out in front. Just the little things that make it enjoyable.

lCiv 2 is exactly because it is a game that runs on low-end hardware and is still fun.
