I'm not a coder, so here it is in layman's terms:

An object dock is an anchor point for links (displayed as images which are usually referred to as icons) to the following: (1) Various system functions (i.e., My Documents, My Computer, Drives, etc.), (2) Programs (i.e., Word, Photoshop, WindowBlinds, CorelDRAW, etc.), (3) Internet sites - usually referred to as "URL's" (i.e., WinCustomize, Google, devianART, etc.), and can also include (4) Docklets which perform various tasks (i.e., Display Weather, Display Time, Display Date).

The "Dock" portion is usually a rectangular graphic image which acts and displays as a "dock" platform to hold these "icon" images. Both the dock and the icon image (link) can be displayed as a larger sized image than the current normal sized Windows icons and the "icon" image (link)has greater detail and a higher quality image than the icons that come with Windows.

More words than I wanted to use, but there it is.
