Desktop Icon

Hi guys.

It seems for me, the desktop icon usually on the left side of the windows explorer at times never gets skinned. The other options (Recent, My Documents, My Computer, etc.) always get skinned, but the Desktop icon never seems to be. I see it skinned sometimes when I'm using a Stardock product to browse for a file (i.e. selecting an icon for objectdock). Also, it uaually never gets skinned in the drop down menus either.

I'm running Win2kPro if that helps at all.

Thanks.

I have the identical problem... and , can't figure a solution for the life of me. I'm using a custom-built icon package (with a ton of icons just gathered individually), IP v2.50e, on Win XP Pro. As far as I can tell, it is NOT just the package I've created. I have also attempted the whole save my theme files and uninstall/reinstall (making sure to delete the IP folders) routine with no success. Any clues, anybody?

Also Thanks!

I believe this is just a current limitation in IconPackager (it may be due to an access issue with those instances of the "desktop" icon).

I have heard that the "Enhanced Dialog" program (which can be seen in SDC if you have ObjectDesktop) enables this icon to be changed in the explorer windows that do not currently change - but I have not used this program, so I cannot tell you whether this works or, whether this program uninstalls cleanly without leaving changes behind.

Hopefully someone with a better explanation will drop by.

It's not IP that has limitations, it's sometimes that the program doesn't actually query for what icons to use, instead it simply uses the default ones. Lazy programming, but not from SD's side.

I have this same problem as first poster. Very odd. Sometimes it works fine in some "Open" windows, but usually it does not skin properly. A minor quibble, but when you are taking hours to tweak icons bc you are insane, its a hassle!

Hopefully someone has a better answer, or a later version of IP will correct this.

Well, some good news if any of you guys are still following this post....

I solved the problem. Simply go to this page and follow the directions, its pretty easy. Involves fiddling with a .dll file if you aren't scared to do that, wasn't a big deal for me.

OR you could go get IP 3.0 which seemed to fix the problem. Good Job Stardock!
