Hi there Gibb, First of all I would like to clear the aire, Window Blinds will never be the cause of "Messing things up" The User is more times than not the blame 100% of the time..Believe me I know from personal experience..LoL.

Ok, this may work and it may not, wont hurt a thing to try.. On your desktop right click anywhere upon it, from the pop-up menu choose properties..On the Display properties window there will be a bunch of tabs at the top, choose the one that says appearance.. Now there are 3 drop down boxes on the appearance screen, choose the first one , it should have the name of your current skin/theme in it..Scroll up through the list until you see Windows XP Style..choose it and hit apply at the bottom of the window. That should put everything..except for your wallpaper, back in standard Windows XP format, visually at least..

Hope this helps,
Take care,
Zero.

I thought only screwing around with stylexp would tamper with the UXTHEME.DLL, not windowblinds.
Thanks for the reply double zero but that dont work. I click on the XP style but I just keep getting the error and it turns my task bar and start menu to this old greyish Windows 98 look
If you click on this link there is a screenshot of the error
Link
The only way I can seem to get my theme back to XP is by using windowblinds but this mean I have to put up with the "Nagscreen" on every startup. ( and yes i no its only a pop up but its not just my comp. and the users dont keep wanting the annoying pop up everytime we load the computer)
This is really starting to get on my nerves now.
Please Help
Thanks
Oh btw someone said using stylexp messes up the uxtheme.dll but I have never used stylexp.Any Ideas????

Well Gibb, Other than doing a *Repair install of the OS the only other thing I could suggest is surfing through TweakXP.com Link for any useful tips..there was one article there concerning changing the DLL file..Hmmmmm..Ahh there it is..
This is straight from the TweakXP site

The easiest way to replace uxtheme.dll, or any other dll, is to delete the backups of the dll(s) you wish to replace in the dllcache folder (in the system32 folder).

For XPsp1(pro or home), you have to check another backup folder (don't worry, it can't be in both folders, only one or the other) which is X:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles\i386 (X being your system drive)

Once you've deleted the backups, simply right-click-move the dll from the system32 folder to your desktop, click "cancel" in the popup that asks for your Install disk, and "yes" in the popup after that. Then right-click-move your hacked (or whatever) version of the dll to the system32 folder, again, click cancel in the first popup, and yes in the second one.

Restart, and either archive the original (for restoration purposes) or simply delete it. This worked for me when I replaced a hacked version of uxtheme.dll to run a Mac OSX Jaguar Theme (very nice) to give my windows a MacOSX look.

Want more info? check out--> http://www.jonmega.com/~iceman/vs/

This article isnt exactly problem specific in your case, thats why I suggest that perhaps you surf through the site yourself, they may have the answers there...

I hope this is at least a little more helpful,

Just keep in mind that this is not an official Stardock support channel. The people here are very helpful, but ultimately, if nobody can solve this for you, you should email [email protected].

I've never heard of this error myself, and my first guess would have been StyleXP or some other program or "patch" that modifes uxtheme.dll, which WindowBlinds does not. Is it possible that someone else who uses your computer has done something to modify uxtheme.dll? Do you have the XP Service Packs installed? I know Service Pack 1 updates uxtheme.dll, and Service Pack 2 (which includes all the SP1 updates) may as well. If you haven't installed it yet, it may repair the file for you.

As for the nag screen, you could always register WindowBlinds to get rid of that. I can understand your reservations though, until this error is resolved.

Have you by any chance disabled the Themes service?
Control Panel / Administrator Tools / Services
Then scroll down to "Themes" and see if the Startup Type is set to "Automatic" and the Status is set to "Started". If not, double-click on it the select Automatic from the Startup Type dropdown and press the Start button.
See if that works.

Thanks again.
Double Zero - I deleted the uxtheme.dll from c:\windows\system32 and replaced it with the one from c:\windows\system32 but still no luck
Super Wizop MikeB314 - No one else who uses this computer would mess with system files and stuff they just use it for gaming and work. etc Also I have emailed them but they suggested I use a this program they provided me with to completley delete all of window blinds didnt work tho.
Wizop paxx - No its not disabled its set to start and automatic.
I was thinking of regisetering but why should I have to pay about £15 just to remove the nag screen, its not as if I will use the program when I have brought it ANY ONE PLEASE GOT ANY HELP.
THANKS
OH and I do have SP2 installed, someone said re-install it but I really want to avoid re-installing the SP. or the OS.

I agree with MikeB314 you should email [email protected]
I have 4.5 installed and found uxtheme.dll in c:\windows\system32 & c:\windows\servicepack\i386
I also found uxtheme.dl_ in the c:\windows\i386 directory
Personally I would run windows setup to repair the installation.

ARGH.
how would I go about doing the windows setup repair installation??????
I have tried the email [email protected] but their no help as of yet.
If I could disable the nag screen on start up then I wouldnt mind as much because I can change my theme using windows blinds but that pop up screen on everystart up thats getting on my nerves.

gibb89: you originally asked where you can download the Windows XP theme, and I THINK this is what you are looking for. https://www.wincustomize.com/ViewSkin.aspx?SID=1&SkinID=2776&LibID=1

However, I do encourage you to e-mail support, because if you ever delete the WindowBlinds program then this theme isn't going to work for you anymore. WindowBlinds does not delete skins on it's own, so you really want to look into what happened. However, I suspect support will tell you to reinstall the OS. (I could be wrong about that). I'd take Lantec's advice and run window's setup to repair the installation, and see if that works. Let us know!

How do I do the windows repair? Will it delete my persenal files from my comp. Such as word docs and games.?

Oh do you know were I can download the windows style theme, but it has to be in the .theme because I will try and re-install the theme by going to display properties and clicking theme tab then browsing for the .theme file.

Put your windows cd in the drive and reboot the computer. When the menu comes up choose repair. If you don't have a windows cd (pre-installed) then select run from the start menu and type in c:\windows\setup.exe
You shouldn't lose any data files but I would back them up first anyway.

Doesnt matter I dont want to go messing with all my system files and stuff.
I just leave and I will have to put up windows 98 look on XP.
THANKS STARDOCK!!

Dude....this wasnt our/their fault.....

WindowBlinds DOES NOT TOUCH the UXtheme.dll file. Ever. It just doesnt. Wanna know why? (this is the best part) It doesnt touch it because all it does is tell Windows to get its UI info from WBlinds.dll instead. Meaning not only does WB not touch UXtheme.dll, it keeps windows from touching it. The only thing left is the USER touching it, or some other prog. Therefor, this is your problem, and not our/their fault.

"Hoorah" Cerebro way to step up!..::laughs:: I can definitely understand Gibbs frustration tho, so I wont hold his mis-placed anger against him. Stardock just is not the reason the system is messed up though, that much is true.
Hang in there Gibb, it is by no means a lost cause...

Zero.

Oh rite didnt realise stardock didnt touch the uxtheme.dll thing, but it was since I installed it that things went wrong. I could change between themes upon til minutes before installing the product, I just assumed it was it.
If its not that what else could it be.
I know im sounding really 'pushy' and stuff but it my Dads computer and not mine. im only 15, when he comes back from his business trip and see what he thinks "ive" done I probley wont be allowed back on this computer. I shouldnt actually be on it full stop, cos ive gt my own computer but this one is much better.

My guess is that maybe you downloaded a third party msstyle theme. Often these are distributed as EXE's that include a modified patched uxtheme.dll file that will replace your default Windows one. Maybe you don't remember downloading it, maybe you downloaded it by mistake thinking it was something else, but I'm 99.99% sure that's what happened.
The patched uxtheme.dll's work fine usually, but usually don't work after installing a Service Pack.
If you have Service Pack 2 installed, them maybe you should download the new patched uxtheme compatible with Service Pack 2. You can get it from there:

WindowBlinds, by definition, can't affect your existing themes. That is the point of it - it uses its own themes and has no reason to touch any system files.

I can't imagine a scenario where the Luna.msstyles has been removed unless you've been using one of those uxtheme patching programs.   But you could be able to find luna.msstyles in c:\windows\resources\themes\luna

I have lunaXP there but when I got to display and select it then click apply I get the error as shown below
Link

It then changes the theme to the grey Windows 98 look.

What does the error mean. Also I have tried replacing the uxtheme.dll with the original and a patched one but nothing works
It does ask me to put in the Windows XP SP2 disc but I only have the original XP one so I cant replace it.
It means there is something wrong with your uxtheme.dll.
Your best bet would be to reinstall SP2. If you don't have it, I'm afraid you'll have to redownload it.

But did you place the new uxtheme.dll in your C:\Windows\System32 folder? Make sure you rename the one you have there first (uxtheme.bak).
Note that if you already have a file called uxtheme.bak there, you could try to rename it back to uxtheme.dll.
If I reinstall SP2 is it going to delete anything of my computer like personal files ie words docs.
And I did put it in the system 32 folder, I renamed all the other ones I could find on my computer to untheme.bak or .old.
Any thing else I can try before re-installing. PHWWWWWWW.....
