The newest batch of XP updates breaks Automatic Update!

Ive had to go to the Windows Update site myself to download them because something that Microsoft did (I dont know what) Is making Automatic Updates misbehave.

Can anyone shine some light on this as to why this is happening?

I downloaded the new updates the other day. they slowed my computer down to a crawl. I uninstalled them. The updates seem to be a bit buggy I guess...

My Windows Updates is certainly 'misbehaving' and seems 'broken'. I was on the phone Friday with both Microsoft and Dell about this: the Options panel for Windows Updates is "ghosted". I can no longer choose "Automatic", "Notify me", etc. as clicking anywhere within the selections window has no effect. Several diagnostic tests with Dell weren't able to fix it.

I can't help but feel that these lastest updates were forced upon me as they suddenly began to download last Thursday and, at first, I didn't know what was going on. Again, I can't change the settings.

Is this the case for you too, Jason? Anyone else experiencing this problem?

Downloaded all the updates and everything is working fine here. And no slow downs either. I also have autoupdates turned off and just make a point of checking every week or so and then download any updates "I" pick, and I've never installed SP2.

I have no issues, i run all the updates, and have SP2 (i need it for WPA protection)
No slowdown, no bugs, Auto update still works

Automatic update functionality was restored when I manually installed the updates from the Windows Update site. But this situation was weird. I can just see the amount of problems that are flowing through Windows Longhorn right about now. (Although im one to upgrade when microsoft releases a new O/S in the stores )

has ms already begun--or just still threatening--to block autoupdates of systems using non-authentic (like pirated) copies of xp?

I have SP2, no problems here. Of course I check for updates myself. I will not let MS be in charge. Who know's what else they do with all that permission.
