Problem with looking @ blank discs

Ok, here is my problem. When I insert a blank disc so I can put data onto it (click and drag), it just says "Please insert a disc into drive D". It used to work so that a window will pop up to let me see whats in it (I can then click and drag the data I want onto it). I was wondering if I can get it back to the way it was. I am running XP Home and yes, the CD is rewritable.

Right click on drive/properties/recording, enable recording

OK, this may sound stupid, but it's happened to me before... Are you sure the blank disc is inserted on the correct side?

Kona, are you right-clicking on the My Computer/CD drive, or on a shortcut to the CD drive? The recording tab SHOULD be there (on the properties of the drive, not the shortcut).

Paxx I'm sure. I open "My Computer" and right click my CDRW drive. I see NO option for "recording"

Of course I do NOT have a CD inserted...

It still should be there, CD in the drive or not. You have a weird issue. :/

kona - right click, choose properties, recording is the upper right tab.

You should un-install the drive and then reboot. Your computer will re-install the drive. Maybe that will work. I had a simular problem once, and that did the trick for me. Smile!

Ask the obvious questions first.
Are they bulk discs?
Does it happen to all the Discs?
Does it happen to an alternate brand of Blank Disc?
Has this problem occurred before?
Does the Disc work in another machine?
What does the Drive manufacturer say about that type of disc?
Does the drive need a Firmware update?
Is the Drive Lens clean?
What has changed if it is a New Problem, or since the last successful time it worked.
Alot of Bulk Disc have a quality assurance problem. I have found the blank Silvers from CompUSA to be trash, and this is very similar to bulk sleeves of Disc, bought through eBay and other outlets. Whenever I buy Disc in bulk now, through eBay or another Site, I Google the Brand to see if there is any Quality issues. Now I just got a really good deal on some DVD+Rs' 2.4x from CompUSA, I figured getting them for 25% of thier normal cost vs, taking 22 minutes to burn was worth the trade off. But get this... first Disc off the Spindle was Bad. Nero wouldn't see it. All of the others on the spindle have been fine. I figure the First and Last Disc in a spindle are crap shoots, owing to what I call the 'Handling Factor.' Being handled by machinery in packaging.

I figured my problem out. I was right clicking the WRONG drive. "Recording" Shows up under my CDRW drive just fine.
