User-friendliness carried further than in other games
from
GalCiv2 Forums
GalCiv has a very strong potential for someone willing to use his head and push further. It's like diplomacy, where anyone can use it in daily conversations, but someone more knowledgeable can look at many other things.
But most players... don't even see some potential routes
I would propose a tutorial that shows the potential, considering that players are not used to do that and it would be good if they would see the actual potential of GalCiv the Great and say "woa... never thought it could go that far".
How?
Well players (especially from the mainstream) need to know how different aspects work: "buffer states, manage alliances, use technology and money as a carrot, and fight proxy wars using other civilizations" (quote from GameSpy). They should see the power of realpolitik, Machiavelli or (if they wish) of whattever ideologies they wish to "role play".
Players need to be shown how complete and powerful GalCiv really is... even if it would only be some "GalCiv Encyclopedia" or whattever linked to the diplomacy screen, it would be great for all the players that wont go in forums and such to discuss details.
PS: Everyone on these boards should give a look at GameSpy's interview http://pc.gamespy.com/pc/galactic-civilizations-ii/585986p1.html
