The Metaverse. Once a peaceful and tranquil place where the only fighting was among the empires for points, has now been turned into a place of turmoil. As one of the original empire-hoppers, way back, before everyone started switching empires, I feel a duty to give my opinion on this. Lets start when I first empire-hopped.
The metaverse was a well established place already. It was during the summer, so it was much more active than it was now. I was just playing an normal level of game, and I had not started maso yet. I was in the Illuminati Empire. The leader of the Illuminati empire was not very active, so it was never a big part of the metaverse incident. HairytheTaco left the Illuminati to create the Evil Empire, and I soon joined him. Then started the events leading up to the empire-hopping catastrophe. EBZ created the GCCG(Galactic Civilizations Cranking Guide). I began to use his techniques, and I was soon cranking out games. Then Frogboy voiced his opinion that his tactic was "cheese". I supported EBZ, and so did many other members of the metaverse, but in the end, EBZ gave up on galciv. EBZ no longer visits the forums or submits games. I'm sure others quit with him. This was the start of the deactivication(?) of the metaverse. The second event was that school started. Many people who were active on the metaverse now had no time for it. Several players stopped submitting games, and the "disappeared" from the metaverse. The third event which has caused the turmoil in the metaverse is Cotal switching to the Jedi Jepublic, and becoming Amidala. Seeing that the top player in the metaverse empire-hopped, many others decided it was okay. I'm not exactly sure why so many people decided to switch, as I am in an empire where nothing happened, but I have a theory that it was lack of activity in the empires. Several people joined the Jedi Republic, but as many left to become non-members or join the new Jedi Academy. The latest happening is that the new emprire encompromising just the Posse has formed. UPDATE: Wild Wombat has created a new empire called the "Special Forces" right as I am talking. Gross has dropped to 6th.
I am pretty much against all of this empire-hopping. Players have a duty to their empire, and so many players shouldn't switch at the drop of a hat.
