IconX, what's its deal?

Just too many problems making it useless or unproductive

First thing that's really bad with this program is that when I click the show desktop icon to go to the desktop all the icons revert back to standard ones in their old places. Then when I open a new windows they suddently pop back to the IconX setup.

Then what's the deal with animations and mouse overs and aways? It's really nice, but the way they work is too annoying. If I come up to the icon from below it will animate twice, once for touching the label and once for the icon instead of counting that as the same. So it looks pretty bad with it flickering or resizing twice even though you didn't move your mouse away and back. Then if you drag you cursor back and forth across an icon several times it will play an animation for everytime you did instead of knowing to stop now that your cursor is away.

Another bug is dragging things into folders, the icons you have selected will jump to random places on the desktop after you let go then disappear into the folder. It also breaks the spring folder app.

Renaming is more annoying because you can't highlight. Creating a new folder it won't have it pre-highlighted for a new name, and you have to use back space to remove what's there instead of typing over it.

When I have it running on my dual setup with one monitor lower than the main screen it will cause my startbar to disappear if I don't have a window open or something.

I know it's beta, but it's got a lot of work to be done. It just doesn't change things for the better besides graphics.

Is there anyway to add shadows to icons without the need for this app?

Well and I can't imagine any machine of mine without IconX.

The main problem that makes it unusable is the show desktop icon. 90% of the time when I got to my desktop it's through that task button to minimize everything and when I do that the icons revert like IconX isn't even loaded until I open a new window and it comes back. So how can I use it if it keeps going off when I go to the desktop?

Do you have that problem?

Also, I like to drag icons by their names, so with that being almost instinctive it's kind of annoying that you can't with IconX. Kind of like going from Mac to PC trying to use Control instead of Command in different spots.

Another annoying thing with IconX is right-click dragging to a folder brings up a weird desktop menu instead of the copy/move/shortcut menu until you click the window you are dragging to.

Also, it doesn't play well with any widget app other than dekstopx, and it sometimes put a random default icon on some file types when they are assigned proper icons through IconPackager.

Plus all the issues you have mentioned.

I can't imagine any of my machines "with" IconX. Especially after using AveDesk1.2 beta and it does the job properly.

I am not sure if I like the IconX.
It works only on desktop. How many of you out there just stare at the monitor without even opening a window and covering most of your desktop in your day to day activities?

If it were to work with all folders in explorer then may be it would be of a little value than what it is now.
