The headline on yahoo says: "Iraq Says Winning War on Rebels as Polls Near." Yet it shows a picture of a car bomb exploding outside of a school used as a polling place. Isn't this a little misleading / irresponsible?

Well, Iraqis may never get Democracy quite right, but someone over there's already taken a page on propaganda from the Bush playbook - say you're winning when you're losing, stand in the face of all facts and continue to lie. I haven't gotten such a laugh since Condi reported to the 9-11 comission on Presidential Daily Briefing dated August 10, 2001 - "I believe the title of that report was "Bin Laden determined to strike within U.S." She then goes on to say it was "historical" information. Just like that was "historical," the pictures of car bombs exploding outside of polling places means that peace and freedom are on the march in Iraq, right?

I just posted an article similar to this one. Some sorry asses will still think that everything is rosy in Iraq, only because Dubya says so. No tellin' em otherwise. But, we just have to keep reminding them that it's not rosy. It's awful. It's a freakin' disaster, predicated on lies and conflicts of interest.

And you should ask these questions:

What are the objectives of those perpetrating the violence?
Who are bearing the brunt of that violence?
What viable alternatives for governing Iraq are being offered by the so-called insurgents?
Who are putting their own lives in harm's way to enable the birth of the democratic process in Iraq?
What would the Iraqi people stand to gain by an insurgent "victory"?

The process is messy and will continue to be violent, just like the process of evolving a civilized nation here was messy and violent. Sorry, but bitchy whining is unmoving.

After 1-30-05, when 60% or so of eligible Iraqi voters went to the polls, do you still think it is a wreck?

The only "wreck in Iraq" today was a C-130. We don't know how many casualties yet, but it very well could be that more died in that accident than the opposition could kill on purpose.

Yes, there were problems in Iraq today, but more importantly, there was an election!!! You can play your politics of pettiness if you'd like, but what happened today was nothing short of miraculous!! Less than 50 people were killed in attacks today, if that is the best the opposition could do to deter Iraqis from voting, they don't have much. If this is the only thing you can come up with on this day of celebration, then excuse me for saying it but, you don't have much either!

If perfection was the only thing you would accept as success, I guess you would have been against anyone's freedoms, since almost all freedom has come at a dear cost.

Would you rather have seen 60% of the Iraqis killed in attacks than vote. Just so you could point your fickle finger at Prs. Bush.

I understand being against the war, but to completely discount everything that happened on election day, just because you're afraid it might make you political opponents look good, is sad.

Actually, i wonder if Kerry (or any other democrat) was President, and the elections turned out the way they did....how would dabe and the others feel about it then? Raving success?
