And fortunately for me, he snapped out of it just as my extremism started, so he was able to help pull me out of MY bias. You were never really that bad as a conservative though. Not nearly as far to the right as you could have gone.

And I dont believe you do have any disdain.  From the little writing I have seen so far, while you may not be a conservative, I would not put you very far left of center if left at all.

Those on this site who know me well, which I daresay is very few of you, know that I am all but a conservative these days. But it wasn't always that way. You won't believe what made me moderate. It all started with watching Lou Dobbs on CNN. I'm not sure why I started watching him, with his low, boring, and dreary voice. He didn't even talk about issues that mattered to me. Every night it was outsourcing. Outsourcing doesn't really concern me, considering it would be impossible to outsource my job. But still, I faithfully watched Mr. Dobbs and began watching more of CNN. News sparked my interest, and I began to want to know more about the world around me, more about real issues, more about current events. As I watched CNN, my knowledge of issues grew, and I began calling myself conservative. I had no clue as to why I thought I was conservative, but I just thought it was the only way to be. Perhaps it is due to the fact that even though I live in one of the most liberal states, I live in a conservative county. I also wanted nothing to do with those icky liberals. I sided with the church, although I had no place in it, and I also sided with the right, although I had no place in that, either. This was all until I had my eyes opened. Opened by whom, you ask? By Fox News. That's right. Yes, THAT Fox News. Fair and Balanced. I don't know what it was about Fox, but it made me look at the world in a different way. It made me more inquisitive, more, I daresay, politically moderate. Their news was not only captivating, but they seemed to report in a way CNN couldn't. I was instantly hooked. With this newfound spark of inquisition, I began to question my own views. Why was I conservative? I couldn't find the answer, but I brushed it off. I kept thinking and forming my own opinions, not regurgitating someone else's. I delved deeper into my mind, but all I could see was centristic to liberal tendencies, none of the conservative ones I had clung onto for so long. My transformation had started. I saw with new eyes the issues, and with new eyes I made my mind up on them. I finally was able to see clearly what had been covered in my own bias before. Strange, isn't it, that Fox News actually caused me to become more liberal? Being a conservative...what was I thinking?

DR, I think he is a moderate.  I am waiting to see his views, but it sounds like he is center or perhaps a tad left.  He is very rational tho!  And they are always welcome!

My expert opinion, after knowing him for 10 or so years (maybe 3 of which either of us have had any interest in politics), is that he is center, slightly left-leaning. I wouldn't know, though

Interesting article Fazz (thought for the purposes of scoring I shall rate it as insightful). My friend, known as Champas Socialist on JU, brings up the point that the labels left wing and right wing are often meaningless or at least silly in the way they are used. In this case you to labeled yourself as a conservative even though your views weren't conservative. In general I think people should really think before they start applying the labels left or right, to others or to themselves.
