0 for 9-11

Ooops, academy awards nominations for Fahrenhiet 9-11: 0, nada, goose egg, zilch.

Looks like this year the Academy has instead opted to reward works that are less politically charged, or more clearly labelled fictional.

Too bad for Michael Moore, but great for those of us that don't want to hear his big mouth during any speechifying he might have done.

People who have read my blog know that i have less of a problem with MM than conservatives and more of a problem with MM than liberals, as a rule. 9/11 disappointed me, mostly because i thought he tried to pass off his takes as journalism, and his journalism was shoddy at best. I also thought the music selection was tasteless and unprofessional.

Moreover, while i dont give two whits about the academy awards these days, I'm glad that that they are passing on a politically-charged movie.

I thought Bowling for Columbine was better than F9/11

i did too, but i also thought the first two (roger and me and the big one) were the best. they felt more honest to me than these last two movies. for me, MM was at his best when he kept things simple and straightforward. all of the cuts and slants and heavyhanded editorials are hard for me to stomach.

Michael took it out of contention for the Documentary category so it could be shown on television. This meant that the only category it could have been nominated in was "Best Picture" or "Best Director," unlikely for a documentary.

When the film has been removed from its genre's main category, it stands to reason that it won't get nominated in others. So be happy if you want about it -- Mike's already got an Oscar, so I doubt you'll see him get too upset.

Besides, both sides can look on the bright side

Right bright side: F9/11 didn't get nominated!
Left bright side: The Passion didn't get nominated!

Yea but the Passion got 3 nominations. thouigh it should be four since JC didn't get nominated for best actor. That was intense role that required much more physical stamina and could be dangerously over or underacted than Johnny Depp's character.

I wonder if Michael Moore's body guard still likes the anti gun message in "Bowling for Columbine." I guess good ol' Mikey's employees are more deserving of the right to bear arms than the rest of us! ;~D

Moore to the point of you article, I will say that I agree, his earlier films were done much better than either Columbine or F/911. He put much more effort into them. On the other hand, he got a lot more notariety and money out of the latter works. Selling out has it's own rewards.

I think the academy wanted to avoid controversy from both sides this year.

hmmm...the Passion also didn't get nominated for any major awards. This could be saying something, but I don't know what...

Good point, both of you, however, apparently Mel Gibson also didn't send a promo copy of the Passion (ads, or doing any of the other jockeying for consideration from Academy members). So I guess Mel Gibson really wasn't all that interested in any Oscars for it (although I'm sure he wouldn't have refused any either.

Whether true or not, I heard that he lobbied the Academy voters very heavily over the past couple of months, using the "If you were unhappy with the election results, you can send a big statement by nominating my movie" approach. Appears it was all for naught.

Cheers,
