Game Balance changes.

I am concerned about the game balance in terms of the need to focus in building up a stong offensive military force.
While I like the fleets approach and ability to design ships I still think the bias could be too strong towards offense.

It is near impossible to get through a GC1 game by focusing on peaceful techs. Also at the same time it is hard to adopt a purely defensive/ non combatant stance. Therefore I really hope that the balance get s moved so that it is basically easier to 'defend'. This can be done in a number of ways:
1) The AI players should not rush to war against you so quickly if you are weak at the start of the game. This can be done if an aspect of the 'fog of war' should be that noone knows the full details of the military strength until we have gathered more intelligence on this race - do they have weapons of mass destruction . I have mentioned this in another thread...
2) I think planets should get better a better defense bonus than they currently do eg by adding defense points as well as attack points. This would help keep Minors in the game for longer...
3) I would like to see more defensive research techs eg to boost planetry defense.
4) I am sure this is already happening but there should also be more focus on the CIV aspect as a whole. Many user requests have focused on the military part of the game wheras I personally would like to see more subtle diplomacy, sabotage, spying aspects etc and not just ability bonuses either.

Finally,I still like the pure military Rush/ expansion by force approaches as this needs to be possible but at the same time I want to be able to go other ways without resorting to culture bombing eg. Expansion through technological advanses in key areas.

"defend themselves at some time" which was exactly another of my points mentioned above - increasing defense possibilities, and going the non agressor route.

ure, we might see those long before fighting vessels.

nd play accordingly. But the same can be said with any game: understand the mechanisms to see how to use them at your advantage.

User-friendly, I really like your suggestion about partial information about other civs. I don't know exactly how it could be implemented though.

It also looks like with the starship design capabilities the player is free to specialise how they want so everyone can 'tool up' how they want.
