Ground Combat?

Now that we know that planets will be devised onto tiles i get curious about ground combat.

1. Will we transport population like in GalCiv1 or will we create ground troops (or maybe they are generated automatically on each planet depending on a defensive / offensive policy ) ?

2. Will we be able to fight over various tiles? if yes, maybe the invader takes control of, say, the food farms, reducing the amount produced by the defenders while increasing the amount produced by the attackers?

just some thoughts.

net has been taken over.

Hence blitzing your enemy and attacking all his planets at the same time won't be as effective as in GC1.

And will it allow the occupation and control of enemy pops ie killing only some of the alien population? Or will it be the mass genocide we currently have?

I don't think any decisions has been made yet. However, there won't be multicultural planets in the game (maybe in an add-on) hence the surviving civilians will become instantly citizens of the conqueror.

> Higher military population gains infrastructure and production bonuses to military buildings and ships

Then you could have things like governors which could increase efficiency and that kind of thing.

These should be slow events, not instantaeous actions,

Agreed. Also, the way that you carry out planatary campaigns should affect the way that you are seen thoughout the universe. If you are very brutal in taking and subduing a planet, it should affect your morality.

are to retreating into orbit and giving the whole thing up, for now.

I reckon their should be a number of tactics available when defending as well as attacking planets.

and military in war can be find in this separation - drafted and pro soldiers. Morale and training quality are important in this kind of distinction.

ces with a production penalty.
This would also let defending forces to send troops to the planets while an invasion is going on to reinforce their troops.

would have somehow watched me, figured I was gonna pull the "ruse", and countered with something deadly vs ruse in the next ground attack.
