George Washington was not

The Abraham Lincoln was a stretch, but at least he was in name.
So how do you go from "no party affiliation" or Federalist(since that's what his supporters were)
to good old fashioned Bible-thumping, anti-libertarian GOP shinnagans?

By game standards since his federalist party became the whigs who in turn became Republicans, then George Washington is a Republican. The parties have of course changed after so many generations into something entirely different. For example Barry Goldwater would be appalled to have seen the huge deficits put up by Reagan/Bush/Dubyah. The Republican party drew strength from the south for those disaffected by the Democrats stand on anti-segregation laws, which were in the time of Ulysses S. Grant, drawn up by Democrats.
