Hell.. Maybe I am under analyzing the party’s demographics, but based on the people I know (and I will admit that this causes a large bias because most of the people I know qualify for inclusion in group 2), I have determined that there are two types of republicans:
The first type is the one who finds solace in the non-economic properties of the republican platform. In other words, they are not in the top income earning bracket, and therefore are not the primary concern of the Republican Party’s tax breaks. These people like the ideas of discrimination and other acts of bigotry (anti-gay for example). These people could also be southerner (again, harkens back to the days of racism, so this would qualify them as bigoted again). There are those who are violent or dislike other ethnicities (the people who say bomb Iraq or the Middle East for example have no compassion for life or do not care for middle easterners, because you wouldn't hear them say bomb the hell out of England or Canada). These are the people that I can absolutely not understand. While I try, their lack of compassion astounds me and I find it very difficult to have a reasonable discussing with such people.
The next group is filled with people in the top income earning brackets. They benefit from the republican tax cuts, and choose to allow money to buy their vote. They often care about the other issues, but money plays a more important role in their decision. While I do not agree with these people, I do not find them as irrational as the people in group 1. These people have a legitimate, and reasonable, albeit greedy, reason for voting republican. The problem found here is that the people in group two often just support what ever republican candidates are backing. They may not personally believe it in their hearts, but they spew forth the propaganda from the GOP.
Now, as you climb the economic ladder, there comes a point very high up on the ladder (around billionaire status), where a) you have enough money as it is or b) you are getting tax cuts anyways, and therefore you vote as you feel. Examples of such people include Soros, Gates, Ted Turner, etc.
Well... that just about does it... now tomorrow maybe the two or more types of dems.
