Video as a wallpaper?

Any ideas? It's an MPEG, 2MB file.

I have a 2-3MB MPEG file that I want to stretch to the screen and make it loop. I was thinking maybe I could just make an HTML file that houses this file and it only. Anyone have any other ideas? I also thought about breaking down the frames of it into a GIF, of course not nearly all of the frames. there are probably about 100 of them. Maybe half. Let me know if you all have any ideas about how to do any of my ideas or if you have any of your own, I'm open to input. Thanks everybody.

Hmm, correct me if I'm wrong, but if your MPEG playback is hardware accelerated, it gets drawn on top of all other content. Or doesn't it?

It isn't hardware accelerated...it's just a 64MB card in my ThinkPad.

I know that ATI All in Wonder Cards (the ones with TV and Capture Abilities) had a setting called Video Desktop, which was cool as Hell,and similar to what He is asking about. It made the Video act as a wallpaper, and you could watch TV and Media Files on the Desktop. I don't know how it was able to do that. I think it harnessed the "Overlay" features of the Video Drivers.

Here's a little blurb off, ATIs' webpage.

If another application is already running which makes use of overlay then the overlay feature of the graphics card will not be available for use by the ATI Video Player.

Common types of applications which may use or prevent access to overlay are:

* Video conferencing software
* DVD playback software (such as the ATI DVD Player)
* Video editing software

Please close the application using overlay and then re-launch the ATI Video Player. In some instances Windows may need to be re-started prior to attempting to re-launch the ATI Video Player in order to ensure that the overlay becomes available for use.

Doesn't the DivX Player offer that option? It's been awhile since I used it, so maybe I'm confusing it with another program.

turn on Active desktop, and make a new HTML file and insert the video into it and put the HTML file on the desktop

The VLC player supports video as a wallpaper.

I followed tjesterb's link (down the yellow brick road) and set up the full screen video wall paper. The Script needed a few extra quotations to match the one above to make it work but I got there! Next I edited a thirty second beach clip with the waves gentle rolling to the shore and rendered it into a one and a half hour 700mb clip. I did this is such a way that you can't notice the join and the sound matches up as well. Then I ran it. So now my wife has a nice tropical beach with the gentle sound of waves each time she turns on her compuer, it starts automatically. When it stops it is just the picture of the beach and she can always restart it. Its great.

Thanks tjesterb

My next plan is to get a video clip that welcomes you to the desktop. I'm not sure about this one as I may want to have it animated. A robot or something like that. Any one have any ideas?

Thanks again.
