Transparency

Window Backgrounds

Ther USED to be a way to make the 'wallpaper' in individual windows transparent, or semi-transparent with just a tint of color, so that the desktop wallpaper could be seen 'through' the window, Can that still be done, and if so, how to I turn it on?Email

Simple, Download WindowFX, a great program which can add transparency to your windows.

Is it true alphblending or does it cut & paste the wallpaper into the app on the fly? ISTR an early version faking transparency in that way.

Whole window.

Are you refering to Explorer when you talk about this? There is a setting where the background of Explorer would be painted as the wallpaper and have some basic tinting. At least it used to be.

"Tweak Your Feel", aka "TweakWB.exe", a part of the SkinStudio designer package has settings for customizing Explorer backgrounds (something I discovered after my bf grave up, hah!), but we've been unable to get it to work as desired under win2k (assuming the problem is os-related, but I haven't had a chance to talk to anyone with xp to see if it works under that os or not either). The problem for us has been that Tweak allows us to config, and apparently syncs Explorer to our designed settings, but then when I open Explorer it's unchanged and when I reopen Tweak the settings are back to where they were before.

Anyways, maybe it'll work for you. And why hasn't someone from Stardock answered this already? C'mon tech team!

Explorer background skinning has been either removed or disabled because of the hard-coded overlay in Explorer windows on XP. I don't believe it works anymore with any prior OS, either, as a consequence.
