Moderateman Moderateman

Finally Some democrats get it right!

Finally Some democrats get it right!

There is hope for the dems after all

The state of georgia is showing some common sense in the democratic party at last!

The have 81 democrats in the state legislature and 40 of them have broken ties with what they call A party that NO LONGER REPRESENTS what the democratic party use to stand for.

Altho they remain democrats they have formed a voting block of there own more in tune with the traditions of america.

They say they will no longer be voting party lines and will make up there own minds about what is best for the great state of georgia, and her peoples..

I can say that this pleases me to no end, as finally some democrats are starting to think things thru and see how out of touch
with mainstream america the democratic party has gone.
This voting block of almost 1/2 the georgia legislature {democratic wing} sees the writing on the wall for the present democratic party, AND they do not like it at all, which was the main factor in them parting ways with the luny left.

This bodes well for democrats if more of the party does the same thing... leaving behind the lunitics that seem to run the party now.

We can only hope the {dems} siezes this time to break ranks with the crazies and become what they once were a party for the people and not the representative of the lunatic fringe.

I assume with the mandate the republicans got this last election cycle has smacked some sense in A FEW dems.

Now we will see if other dems can suck it up enough to break with the crazies in the democratic wing to force the dems to moderate the insane views and policies that they now eshew.

so you think proposing $58billion for fixing the traffic/pollution problem in atl by installing mass transit monorails is a good idea or it is a good idea that it was scrapped? I mean the r's in ga think that adding new roads in ga will solve traffic. (i guess they want to add a lane of highway all the way to the ocean) building new lanes just compounds existing traffic and creates more pollution where as monorails wouldn't interfere with existing traffic, cut it in half, and clean up the pollution as a result. and these traitors to the d party like zell seem to care more about talking to people and making people feel good instead of doing something about a problem and creating an environment where people know they feel good. good job moderateman.

and this takes away from the present adminastrations foiling plots today how?

This administration has a poor record of foiling plots, especially compared to the Clinton administration.
Bush Sr:
1992 1 successful plot, 0 foiled
Clinton:
1993: 3 successful plots, 5 foiled plots (interesting to not that two of the three successful plots were within 2 months of his inauguration including the first attack on the twin towers, which Clinton took alot of heat for doing little to foil only a month into his presidency)
1994: 3 successful plots, 4 foiled plots (including plots to assisinate the Pope, and President Clinton)
1995: 1 successful plot, 1 foiled plot
1996: 1 successful plot
1997: no major Al-Quaida plots (must have been the frustration)
1998: 2 successful plots (the infamous attacks on African embassies)
1999: 1 foiled plot (to bomb LAX)
2000: 1 successful plot (USS Cole), 2 foiled plots (including the millenium celebration plot)
Clinton track record: 11 success, 12 foiled
W. Bush
2001: 2 successful plots, 1 foiled
2002: 10 succesful plots, 1 foiled
2003: 1 successful plot, 2 foiled (2 attacks on Pakistani President Musharraf's motorcade, can't really call them foiled, just didn't succeed)
2004: 6 successful plots (more if you count insurgent actions in Iraq), none foiled
Bush track record: 19 successful plots, 4 foiled

Where is this administration's success in the war on terror?

'If you don't mind me asking, what issues ARE you moderate on?'
Well said, ptolh. One wonders why he chooses to hide his overtly right-wing light under the 'moderateman' bushel. (That said, I'm not really a furry canary either ...)

And don't despair - you are by no means the only liberal here. Try myrrander's threads if you're in need of an intelligent and free-thinking breather from right-wing hegemony.

And what plots did we fail at? And please don't use use plots from other countries. That is not Bushs jurisdiction. Plots in other countries aren't ours to let suceed or to foil!

Even against American interests? Dubyah promised us a worldwide war on terror, but do we have to ammend that to "they better damn well not attack Wisconsin or they'll be sorry?" I guess Republicans are weak on terror despite all the complaints about how its Clinton's fault.

BTW, I did provide a link, so you're just being lazy.

BTW while you may have provided a link I believe that you are the one who is a) lazy or b) forgetful. The link is to the 9/11 commision' findings. And no where do they talk about anything after 9/11 that I could find.

Sorry but unless it is against our embassies or our military we have no right to interdict anywhere except on US soil

Guess you missed that big graph right in the middle about the reach of Al Quaida showing all their plots since 1992.

Was the administration lying then when they promised a worldwide war on terror?
"We're building a strong coalition to go after these perpetrators, but, more broadly, to go after terrorism wherever we find it in the world," Powell said at a State Department briefing.

"This is an enemy that tries to hide, but it won't be able to hide forever. This is an enemy that thinks its harbors are safe, but they won't be safe forever," Bush said.

"Make no mistake, the United States will hunt down and punish those responsible for these cowardly acts."

So we only look as far as the borders in the worldwide war on terror? Are we not hunting them down wherever they are?

Which is why the whole world should be happy you are not in power.

As far as the policeman of the world statement, it is not the job of the US military to make sure that every government treats their citizens well. We would be awful busy if we were. It is the job of the US military and the intelligence community to combat threats to America, which terrorism qualifies. Attacks against other countries are meant to lessen their support for us as allies.
