Please help with zipped icon packs

Hi guys, I'm new to the whole object desktop experience. I'm also trying the Icon Packager proggie, and that's my problem. I have downloaded several icon packs from the website, and they are in zip files. How do I install the packages? Please, I have been trying for an hour now and I'm embarrased to say that I haven't figured it out Could someone give me sort of a step-by-step guide? I have figured out pretty much all the other programs (windowblinds, winstyle, desktopX, ) but I cannot change the icons using icon packager. I hope somebody can help me. Thanks in advance and happy holidays to all!

Unzip the files in a folder under Iconpackager/themes/ (sometimes unzipping creates folders sometimes not you need to create them) you should have an (package name.iptheme) file when complete. Now start Iconpackager and the new packages should be listed under Packages. Using the mouse scroll through and select the package you want, then select Load, then apply. Wait while package is applied. Thats it.

DoubleClick the zip file to open.
Look at the contents.
If it is an IP file, extract from zip and doubleclick to install.
If it is an .iptheme and .icl (or many .ico's), check if there is a path shown.
If there is a path, extract to ObjectDesktop/IconPackager/Themes.
If there isn't a path go to the above directory and click "make new directory" (Use file name). Then extract the contents of the zip file to the new directory.

Then the package will be available for application.

Hope this helps.

One other option that I usually use, and has worked amazingly well for me, is to simply download the zip file to somewhere like your desktop, open Iconpackager, and select to "Install new Package" from disc, select that zip file and it is installed where it should be. Seems a bit easier to me.

Hi again guys, I tried all 3 of the solutions presented here, and unfortunately nothing works
First I tried BlueDev's (it seemed easier ) and I downloaded the Pirate OS pack. Once I downloaded it, I fired up Icon Packager, selected install from disk, and the pack appeared in the list. I then highlighted it, selected load, then apply, and my screen flickered for a second and the icons were into a "screen refresh" kind of state, where they disappear and appear again, but they are still the same default windows'. And that pretty much sums up my experience with the other 2 recommendations by Cybex53 and jebland... the new package shows on the list, but nothing changes when I try to apply it; and if I click on preview, a blank box appears, I can't see any icons listed. If I select load, or apply, I already explained what happens...
The weird thing is that if I use the icon explorer app that comes with Icon packager, I can see the list of icons that belongs to each package.
Any ideas?
If it helps, I have Windows XP SP2, enough memory and HD space for years to come lol, pentium 4 with HT, and currently running Desktop X and WindowBlinds(with one DX widget running and one WB skin applied) I have a picture of my desktop and IconPackager running.. I wish I could upload it so you can see what's going on...
Thanks for your help again!

Are you using the free version of IconPackager? Can you load the packages that came with the download?

If it's the purchased version, I would uninstall, reboot and install it again. If it's the free version, there may be a limitation on applying new packages. (not sure about this)

Hi, I have tried both the free and the "retail" versions. I tried the freebie first, then the other. Still, I'm not able to apply new packages
I am able to apply the ones that come with the download, and like I said before, I have the toon-xp suite, and those icons show up on the list and I can use them too. When I reinstalled the retail version, I noticed a pop-up notice I had disabled before. I downloaded another icons pack, the zippo one; opened it, and the sme thing happened, no icons were showing up next to the pack's name. Then I tried to load it, and the aforementioned pop-up came. It says something like this:
the icons for the windowsXP classic start menu cannot be changed. This is a currently a limitation with the OS and not a problem with the IP application. (this only happens ONCE, with every new download... if I select that same pack later on, it will not show that message, nor will it load the package )
Does that shed any light to my ongoing dilemma??? **additional info** When I load one of the preloaded packs, they work fine. When I want to load the downloaded ones and fail, the icons revert to the default XP icons. I truly appreciate your help

Did you uninstall the free version and reboot before installing the retail version? Sometimes it causes problems if you don't.

Try changing your menu setting to not classic. I'm at work on W2k and can't remember what the other menu is called (XP Menu?). Right click the start button and try changing that option to see if it helps.

And another thing, what version of IconPackager are you using? If you have the 2.20 or earlier, it cannot read the encrypted .iptheme file that is in use for the 2.50 version. The only way I know of that it would work is to build the theme yourself in Package Builder (under view in the drop down menu)

to all of you thanks a lot for your replies and tips, and specially to you jebland! I finally got the program working... I feel so D U M B now... the problem was that I was using an older version... Once I got 2.5, voila! I can now change the plain old windows xp icons... thanks a lot for your time!
