PERSON OF THE YEAR 2004 *

according to 'TIME' magazine...

George W. Bush

For sticking to his guns (literally and figuratively), for reshaping the rules of politics to fit his ten-gallon-hat leadership style and for persuading a majority of voters that he deserved to be in the White House for another four years, George W. Bush is TIME's 2004 Person of the Year .

That ten gallon hat on this chimp is as deserving as a serial killer for the dubious distinction of Person of the Year.

SHAME ON TIME MAGAZINE. Controversial figures are on thing, but downright war criminals are another. I guess I'll have to read the article to find out why they figured he deserved this. I'll be back with some commentary, likely...............................

I should remind everyone that the Time Person of the Year doesn't necessarily go to the greatest man, only the most influential. Past winners have included: Adolf Hitler, Joseph Stalin (twice), Chiang Kai Shek, Mao Tse Dung, Mohammed Mossadegh (the PM of Iran under the Shah who forged alliances with communists whose ouster by the CIA and MI6 was used as a rallying point for the fanatics in '78), Nikita Kruschev, Gen. Westmoreland, LBJ at the height of Vietnam in 1967, Richard Nixon in '72 after Watergate came to light, King Faisal when Saudi Arabia led the oil boycott against the US, Ayatullah Khomeini, Teng Hsiao Ping, Deng Xiaoping, Yuri Andropov, George Bush Sr for being two faced, and Yassar Arafat. Bush was also selected for 2000 after his razor thin victory.

I think this is a trick by the left. Lull the right into a false sense of security. Let them think TIME is now on their side (apologies to the Rolling Stones), and then, BAM!! Hit 'em when they least expect it.

Well, that's my conspiracy theory for the today.

You're right, of course. But, the attention garnered from this dubious distinction is kind of self defeating if in fact the reason one is selected is because of their malevolent influences. Admittedly, I still have to read the article.
