XP Networking?

I've been poking around for a while now trying to figure some things out and noticed ya'll don't seem to mind technical questions so I thought i'd ask...

My Wife and I both run XP Pro. We had DSL up until about a month ago and we both connected to the DSL Modem directly. Our computers were able to communicate fine.

When we got our Cable Modem I had to hook up our D-Link D-604 Router to the cable modem and hook our computers to the router. Since then our computers haven't been able to communicate. I've tried what I could do and asked for help but I guess since it's Christmas no one wants to help, heh.

Anyway, does anynoe have any ideas? =D Thanks, ya'll...

Oh, and all this stuff is awesome... I've been looking into getting LiteStep but need to read up on it a lot. Love the BootSkins, though!

1. How did you connect to each machine when on DSL (i.e., browsing via My Computer, going directly to the machine's name or IP Address)?

2. Did you have to change any specific settings on either machine when setting up the Cable Modem, beyond the addition of the Router (i.e., Machine Name, IP - which should be DHCP)?

3. If you get one of the other machine's IP Address (at a command prompt, type in "ipconfig /all", without the quotes), can you connect to it via the other machine by doing the following:
a. Start --> Run
b. \\ipaddress from other machine (i.e. \\192.168.0.1)
c. click OK, or press Enter

Here's a start, let me know if you've got any other questions or if this didn't make sense. You can also contact me offline at [email protected] (remove the _nospam obviously).
