Objects vs. Widgets

I have a suggestion for future DesktopX versions: Get rid of the distinction between Objects and Widgets.
From a user point of view, they are the same and it is just annoying having to look at two different lists when searching for that nice object/wiget. Just convert all .dxpacks to widgets(.exe) and remove the possibility to save and load objects. That would make DesktopX much more userfriendly.

That's an excellent idea but I believe they should all be Objects as opposed to Widgets. Objects can be saved to the desktop easier and stay where they are supposed to be after rebooting.

Plus, objects remember their initialization data, like email account info in mail checkers, etc

Objects need DX to be loaded to run. Widgets only need it installed.

I don't have any trouble with widgets forgetting their position, or data.

I completely agree, I think they both ought to be left alone. The choice/variety is great, since sometimes you want to use a widget, sometimes you need an object. Its all according to your preference at the time. If you didnt have those choices, you'd be complaining that you are stuck with only one option.

Why don't we leave things the way they are..

Most authors are either uploading as a widget only or both now days so if you are a widget only person just use widgets.

I prefer objects myself and import all widgets into the DX enviroment so that I can save my desktop and reboot without having to start everything back up.

I am going to add my voice to the last few. Just leave things as they are. Widgets are great, when I only want to run one or two. If I want more I prefer having th objects loaded into DX. Keeps things more organized for me.

But that's not the point.
The good Thing about widgets is, that you can still load them into DesktopX, exactly like Object. It is just a different file format and the widget format has the bonus of beeing able to start without DesktopX.
You don't have to give anything up if all would be in the widget format, it would just simplify the use of DesktopX.
