A buddy forwarded the following to me:
"Let me start out by saying that I don't want to simply piss people off......but I do have strong views on this topic.
When I was in the Fleet (regular navy) I was stationed aboard the USS Shiloh. At that time it was an all male crew. Things went smooth for the most part. Now when I was in the Teams....we bounced around to some ships that had a coed crew. It turned in to frickin Jerry Springer. Pregnancies, rapes, little silly high school games, you name it. It was aweful. The biggest problem I saw was not really the difference in the sexes, but the age. Do you expect theses 18 and 19 and 20 year olds to keep there hands off each other? It was a ridiculous situation. It is that mahem that must be avoided in the Teams. When you add femals to certain units......the drama comes with it. Just as much the guys fault as the girls....but the problem still exists.
Now specifically dealing with the Teams. I read in a book (maybe you can find info online) about a study that was done in 1991. This study took 7 extremely athletic women and sent them to Coronado to undergo a simulated Bud/s environment.
The women completed all the evolutions when the evolutions were introduced one by one. However, when the evolutions were placed one right after another like they do in Bud/s.....all the women develpoed problems. I don't remember the specifics, but most developed stress fractures in the pelvic region. The study determined that the skeletal structure of a female is simply different from that of a mans and doesn't hold up to the same stresses. Basically a woman's body is made for a different purpose. And the study recognized that the women used were highly trainined athletes. A regular women's chances would be even less.
Now I'm not a scientist.....all that may or may not be true, but I am a Frogman and I tell you this. One day at morning quaters, our XO addressed the issue of women being allowed in the Teams. Rumours have always losely circled around about women attending Bud/s. He said this, the day we have a female SEAL is the day I turn in my Trident. It is a fact that most Team Guys would do the same. At that point it would be better to move on and remember the Teams in a good way. Free from all the political correctness and DRAMA. Oh yeah, the drama seems to arrive when females join the command.
Example: Female admin lady decides to join us for PT. We always let our support people PT with us....to show that we are all one Team. She complains that people's "balls" were hangin out of there UDT shorts during PT. New policy: No UDT shorts authorized around the Team area. Are you kidding me!!!! NO UDT SHORTS IN A UDT COMPOUND?!?!?!
If I was stationed with the swedish bikini team, and some boobs popped out during PT, I sure as heck wouldn't complain!!!!
we all had to switch to black running shorts with liners in them so that our bubble gum wouldn't hang out. Are you starting to see the drama that comes along with females in the military? The Teams really are the last Boy's Club and we want to keep it that way.
All this might upset some people, but respect what the Teams are and don't try to make it something it's not. The Teams function very very well. If it ain't broken don't fix it!
Let the boys be boys.............................."
