SHORTCUT ARROWS ON ICONS

Hello....I remember way back with Windows 95 that there was a way to remove the little shotcut arrows from your icons....Darn if I can remember how to do it now with Windows XP....Anyone out there know of how to remove these annoying little arrows from my desktop icons? Thanks in advance! John.

Mike..I downloaded the TweakUI Powertoy, but I don't see or can find the application within the pop-up box to remove the arrows.

Open up TweakUI, expand the "Explorer" section, then click on "Shortcut". You'll see options for the shortcut arrow there.

Under setting in iconpackager there is a box to uncheck also.

You can also get rid of the arrows through your registry. If your up to it...click on "run"...the type "regedit"...then click on "edit"...then "find"...the type "IsShortcut" and click "find"... (in XP there are 6 occurances of this in the registry)...in each occurance right click on IsShortcut and choose "rename" then type "Arioch" in front of IsShortcut..."AriochIsShortcut"...this will remove all the arrows across your system.

If for some reason you want to put them back just rename again and erase "Arioch".

But there will still be times when certain skins will force the arrows to be added again on certain icons. And for that you will need TweakUI to remove them.
