If your file is a zip file, try changing the extension to logonxp. Then open Logon Studio and click the load button, and point to your file, Select it and click open. That should install it. Now, it should be available in your list to apply.

My ziped files show as logonxp after I''ve unziped them. After I''ve opened them they still don''t show up and still won''t load. You shouldn''t have to go to all this troupble for a program.

Your posts are kind of rude, Lewis. Did you pay for it?

Chas, the problem with that method is that many times, the uploader has zipped up the actual logonxp file, so if you change the zip to logonxp, you end up with the real logonxp file inside the lgonoxp file you just created.
The easiest way I have found to deal with the problem is this
Go download ZipCentral  http://zipcentral.iscool.net/  ... it's free.
I'm suggesting ZC over WinZip for 2 reasons. 1. WinZip is not free, and 2. I don't know if you can execute things from within a zip without extracting it first with WinZip.

Open the zip file with ZipCentral, you'll probably find a logonxp file inside.
Double-click the logonxp file.
Your logon should load, and open LogonStudio.

(Of course you can try this with WinZip if you wish, it may work, or you may have to extract it first. This is up to you)

If this doesn't work, then there's another problem, and you should tell us which logon you're having trouble with. Link to it if at all possible, so we don't have to hunt it down. We'll help if we can.

Yeah, there are many reasons why a particular logon won't load. But, there is still a easier way with your scenario. If you change the zip file to logonxp and the logon still doesn't show in your Available Logons, then you can browse to the logon theme directory and look for the folder that Logon Studio created. It will have the name of the one you just loaded. Open that folder and if you now see another logonxp file inside, then load that one. Now, you will get the logon in your available logon window.

Another common scenario is that "Use the welcome screen" and "Use Fast User switching" isn't checked. Therefore, the welcome screen won't apply the Logon because it is off. This scenario can be found in your Logon and Logoff options.

This program is quite simple. One just has to get use to using WindowsXP. WindowsXP handles zip files quite differently than other windows versions. And, WinXP handles Logons differently too. It makes your computer more secure but it is slightly more complicated.

Note: There is a free version of WinZip. If you then create a folder called "unzipped" in the root of your C directory and install winzip to the default location, all your unzipped files will go to the unzipped folder by default. Winzip use to create that unzipped folder for you. It doesn't now, but if you create it yourself, it will work the same.

Note: If you use WindowsXp default zip program to open a zip file, the file is still zipped to LogonStudio. WindowsXp doesn''t extract the zip, it just opens it. You will need to move or copy the contents to another place. But, winzip will extract the files by default.

You find is easier to use more steps in the process? To each his own.
