Would a ledger be helpful?

Newbie here, just starting a new game, and already have a good number of planets/starbases/ships. Seems like a ledger is critical to overall view and planning. I know planets have a sortable list but its already growing out of the limited right side screen.

Is this a factor, or is it just a newbie who needs to get more familiar?

ecotab - Have you looked at the info displayed in the Data Bank.  This is helpful for players to get a big picture view of where they stand with several important areas of the game.  The "Core Worlds" tab (5th picture below) in particular is the kind of spreadsheet presentation I think you're looking for.
