Download location
Deskscapes static wallpapers are automatically being downloaded to the dreams folder in "Documents", instead of the "users/username/appdata/stardock/downloaded dreams folder. Thanks.

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. Not sure, if this an issue, a request or something else? Please, we need more details.
Thank you,

Should've been more explanative, apologies. Deskscapes is downloading static wallpapers to the Dreams folder in Documents, instead of with all the other static wallpapers in the AppData folder where Deskscapes usually puts them. There's no option to tell Deskscapes where to put static wallpaper downloads so not sure why all the sudden this is happening. Worked fine before Deskscapes had DNS issues connecting to Wincustomize yesterday. Hope this explains things better.

I have just check some static wallpaper downloads tonight and they are indeed going into my
Documents>Stardock>Dreams' folder. I didn't create this folder.
They are added, when selected to be' to the proper Playlist. But, this is unexpected behaviour by Deskscapes.
My Deskscapes version is 11.03.
Like empathy762 prior the to outage the 15th the downloads went to usual folder in the 'users' folder.
However, this being said, it's not a bad idea to have a User option to redirect downloads to a different folder. My 'Documents' folder, and hence this Stardock>Dreams folder, is on my OneDrive.
I've been thinking of setting up a link so Deskscapes will do that automatically.
Cheers.
Any info at all on this?
I've tried to uninstall V11.03 and had problems with that.
I've tried over-writing with V11.02, but I think that screwed it up even worse.
Is there a registry key that tells Deskscape where the storage folder is?
Thanks.
Update...
I have searched the registry and only found two references to a preview of an image that pointed to to folder in question.
There were no references to an actual setting that set the default download and storage to a 'My Documents>Stardock>Dreams' folder.
Therefore the cause of this new default setting must be external from my computer.
The inference being that Stardock download service for these Static wallpapers is causing this to occur.
I don't know about other types of downloads because static wallpapers is all that I use.
Cheers.

In looking in AppData's local folder, the Deskscapes folder where static wallpapers were downloaded to is empty. I have purged/reinstalled Deskscapes again, discovering this, and it still wants to place static wallpaper in the Documents dreams folder. Hope this gets fixed, and glad to know this is not just happening to me.
I just saw your comment empathy762.
I checked my 'Users>(myuser)>Appdata>Local>Stardock>DownLoadedDreams' and all of my files and folders are still there.
The date of the latest folder is Mar 12, 2026.
After that all Downloads are going to the 'My Documents>Stardock>Dreams' folder. That folder is in my OneDrive but, I'd like to keep things all in the standard folder.
I've only download some images to check the status of things, then deleted the offending folder as there seems to be no easy way to merge files into either folder and have them integrated into a 'Playlist' I already have automatically. Some authors have multiple image sizes in the same download and the appropriate resolution is applied after downloading.
I hope Stardock can get this sorted.
Cheers.

That's what's weird, the "DownloadedDreams" folder is no longer present in the C:\Users\drane\AppData\Local\Stardock\DownloadedDreams folder after a complete reinstall of Deskscapes. Edit: the DownloadedDreams folder is there, just not within the Deskscapes folder, so I moved it to the Deskscapes folder where it should be, and will see what happens.
Do know that this has been discussed internal and Dev mentioned that they will going to check on something. Hopefully they will get back with a solution soon.

Thanks basj.
An interesting thing I noticed today April 2nd. @basj.
I clicked on one of my favourite authors in Deskscapes, SED's dated listing. What I noticed is that images of theirs that I had download recently, after the download directory had changed to the new 'Documents' location, all had that new location shown beside the image under the images description.
All of the images that I have in the old 'Users' location had no download information showing even though the image is downloaded and being used in a play list.
Curious!
Cheers.
The 11.03 Beta was pulled due to issues. I ran the 11.02 installer and it fixed several issues I was having.
I assume you mean that you ran the installer on your installed 11.03 installation. I tried that a while ago and it caused some more problems. I may give it another try based on your success.
Thanks pelaird.
I installed v. 11.02 yesterday thinking that would fix things, but surprisingly it still sends static walls to the Documents folder. I can't understand how all the sudden this problem just creeps up out of nowhere like this.

Is there a way to completely purge Deskscapes from my system?
I will then reinstall V11.02 cleanly and see what happens.
Also, what would be the best way to rebuild my Deskscapes Downloaded Dreams play list?
I only use static wallpapers and I would have a copy of the 'Users' downloaded Dreams folder as well as the 'Dreams' folder in 'My Documents>Stardock' I would need to merge.
Thanks.
Please try purge and reinstall steps as mention here : [Link]. Just make sure to redownload that version from your account page. Reboot after the purge. Reinstall and reboot again after the installation.

I don't normally download static wallpapers from within DeskScapes. I download them from the WinCustomize Wallpaper gallery, and then place them in the correct DeskScapes folder. This morning I ran a test by downloading a current wallpaper from within DeskScapes, and sure enough it was placed in the Dreams folder. This is with 11.2, so it seems this has been an issue for a while. I'm not sure when it started, as I haven't downloaded wallpapers from within DeskScapes for the last couple of years.
Just a heads up, this also happens with the "Steam" version of Deskscapes since I purchased Deskscapes through the Steam app too. So this issue is affecting all versions of Deskscapes where walls are being put in the Documents/Dreams folder. Just thought you should be aware.
Hopefully, when they release the next update, this issue will be fixed.
Hi all,
So, I've completed the purge and re-install of DS V11.02.
The download location is still pointed to the 'My Documents>Stardock>Dreams' folder.
Another anomaly I've noticed is with images that are include in a .ZIP archive such as those of author SED. Those archives contain a 1920x1080 preview image, a 3840x2160 wallpaper and an archive image.
Prior to this glitch happening, once DS had downloaded the package, the appropriate image - the 3840x2160 image in my case - would be placed in the Playlist that was selected in the drop down list.
Now, all of the images in the .ZIP archive are placed in the Playlist chosen not just the appropriate size of image as before. After downloading and placing the images in the Playlist of choice, I have to go to the Playlist and remove from the list those superfluous images.
That's something else the Devs can sort through.
This is a clean install of Deskscapes V11.02 after a purge.
Cheers.
I've just decided to move all static walls to the correct folder(downloaded dreams) manually until this gets fixed. I mostly download Sed's stuff and noticed he puts superfluous files in his archives but I'm fine with it. I just delete anything that doesn't need to be there other than the 4K walls. Can be a bit time consuming but oh well. I don't use Dreams anymore because Wallpaper Engine does way better with these. Anyways, hopefully there's a remedy for this problem soon. We keep griping enough, maybe we'll see results. The squeaky wheel always gets the grease!
Any updates on this issue yet? Deskscapes is still downloading static walls to the Documents folder. Thanks.
