Feature request: Option to automatically bring rolled-up fences to the foreground on hover

Allow a rolled-up fence to move to the front when it expands

Hello,

While testing Fences 6 I noticed a usability issue with rolled-up fences.

Current behavior:

When a fence is configured with roll-up and expands on mouse hover, it sometimes opens behind existing application windows. This makes the fence partially or completely hidden, and prevents quick access to the icons inside it.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Enable roll-up fences.

2. Keep one or more application windows open on the desktop.

3. Hover the mouse over a rolled-up fence.

4. The fence expands but may remain behind other windows.

Expected behavior:

When a rolled-up fence expands (especially via hover), it would be useful if the fence automatically moved to the foreground.

Suggested improvement:

Add an optional setting such as:

"Bring fence to front when expanding"

This would make hover roll-up fences much more practical when working with open windows.

Thank you for considering this improvement.

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. It is known that Fences work on Desktop level, it can't work like a Dock appear in-front of a Window. I understand why your wish it to appear in-front of a Windows, but, currently that is not possible directly, you will need to use Fences peek function to force it to appear in front of a Window.

Thank you,

Thanks for the suggestion. Per basj's post, this isn't exactly possible. But we're looking to try to see what we can do for a future version. We'd like your input on what you're looking for.

One thing that we're looking at is whether we can make it so that "all groups rolled up to the edge of the screen" have their rolled up titlebar remain visible on top of other apps at all times.
- You can still roll over to expand when the desktop is showing, but when on top of other apps, you'd need to click.
- Upon clicking, all groups would come on top of other apps, and the group would roll out.

So basically, it would be like the "Peek" functionality.

Similarly, as you described, when you roll over a group with your mouse when on the desktop, it, and all other Fence groups, would come to the top of the screen. Again it would effectively activate "Peek".

This isn't in development but it's something we're considering. Let us know if this seems of any interest. It's not possible for us to bring just one single Fence group to the top, unfortunately
