[Bug] Icon text labels render as white boxes during Desktop Pages swipe transition

I'm experiencing a rendering issue where icon text labels below icons turn into white rectangular blocks when swiping between Desktop Pages. The icons themselves render fine, only the text labels are affected. Once the page transition completes and I land on the page, the labels return to normal.

Environment:
Fences 6.20 (latest)
Windows 11 Pro Build 26200.7840
HDR: Off

What I've already tried:
Clean reinstall of Fences (same issue)
Full Windows registry cleanup
Windows Update (fully up to date)
sfc /scannow
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
Updating GPU drivers
Rebuilding icon cache
Restarting explorer.exe

None of the above resolved the issue. It appears to be a rendering bug specifically in the Desktop Pages swipe animation.

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. I tested and I can not reproduce your issue on my system. Need few more details.

  1. You was referring to Fences desktop pages, yes?
  2. Single or multi-monitors setup? Resolution and Windows scale factor on each monitors.
  3. Windows animation effect turn on or off?

Thank you,

Hello Basj,

Thank you for looking into this. Here are the details:

  1. Yes, I'm referring to Fences Desktop Pages.
  2. Single monitor setup. Resolution is 1920x1080, scaling at 100%.
  3. Windows animation effects are turned on.

I've already tried the following: turning off Windows animation effects and restarting, same issue. Toggling various settings in the Pages section on and off, no change.

Let me know if you need any additional information. Thanks!

Perhaps something running in the background is conflicting with your Fences. Please try Clean boot: https://support.stardock.com/space/SHC/1332445272/Fences+Clean+Boot. Do note Clean Boot need to be done with come care, try it and report back.

Thank you,

After doing the clean boot as you suggested, the issue was resolved. I then re-enabled services one by one to find the culprit.

It turns out Wallpaper Engine is causing the issue. As soon as I launched it and refreshed the desktop, the white text boxes on icon labels returned during the Desktop Pages swipe transition.

With Wallpaper Engine not running, everything works perfectly, no white boxes during page transitions at all. It seems like there is a compatibility issue between Fences 6 and Wallpaper Engine's desktop rendering. Both applications hook into the desktop layer which is likely causing the conflict.

Yes, I believe it is known compatibility issue with Wallpaper Engine. But, if I remember correctly, this is the first time it has been reported having icons text get white block while moving desktop pages. Moving forward, I have forwarded your issue to Stardock Support Team for their review on this one. Please keep an eye on this thread for any updates. We appreciate your feedback and patience. Thank you.

Hi Veskomenas,

Thank you for posting.  We try to support all major platforms, but some platforms such as WPE may not have full compatibility with all features.  At this time, if you're using both, you could try seeing if there's any settings/layout configuration with Fences that works better for you.

Before making changes, you can also backup your current settings and Fence group layout to restore later.  This guide can help with that.  We'll certainly be interested to know if there's any specific settings you can isolate along the way that are contributing to or can help to alleviate the issue.

Thanks again and best regards,
