Fences 6 Rollup conflict with Directory Opus

I recently upgraded to Fences 6 from Fences 3. If I double click a title bar in Fences to rollup a Fences group into the title bar, it instead opens my third-party Windows File Explorer replacement, Directory Opus.  I suspected this may be caused by Directory Opus (version 13.20) therefore, I exited Directory Opus so it was no longer running.  Double clicking a Fences title bar continues to open Directory Opus, with a little delay as it starts up again. The normal behavior for Directory Opus is to open when double-clicking on a blank space on the desktop. It appears it does not recognize the Fences title bar and sees it as a blank space on the desktop.

I confirmed Directory Opus is causing the issue by exiting both Directory Opus and ending its Helper Application task in Task Manager.  With no Directory Opus programs running on the PC, Fences rollup works as expected.  I have submitted this information to Directory Opus support so this is more and FYI for Stardock.

Windows 11 25H2 is installed on the PC

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. I can not reproduce your issue on my system. Perhaps its something to do with this setting that appear when I installed Directory initially. I disable that option before click OK on this screen. And the issue don't show up for me. Not sure where in Directory Opus to disable/enable that option. For testing, I got to uninstall, reboot and reinstall Directory Opus to force this screen to appear.

Thank you,

Settings -> Preferences -> Launching Opus -> From the Desktop lets the double click launching of Directory Opus from a blank space in the desktop be disabled.

I still cannot double click in the Fences group title bar to roll up the group but I could do it from the group menu. Hovering over the title bar expands the group, but, double clicking does not roll it up.  This is a minor issue now as I have been able to collapse the desired groups.

For Fences, you also need to turn on this option.

Yes, thanks. I was assuming, incorrectly, that double-click rollup was default behavior and had not fully explored the options.

Hey Lynn, just to better understand so we can make the program better for others — could you share more about what you meant by “I was assuming, incorrectly, that double-click rollup was default behavior and had not fully explored the options”?

Thanks again for the report and glad we could figure it out, we appreciate any insight.

When I installed Fences 6, the option "Double click Fences titlebar to toggle roll-up" was not selected.  The first three options under Rollup settings were selected.  The last two were not. I only discovered this when it was pointed out to me.

The existing Fences from Fences 3 were all preserved on the desktop and I just started clicking the titlebars in an attempt to roll them up since I had read about Fences 6 features before upgrading. As I discovered, Directory Opus had double click on desktop to launch enabled and I was not seeing the expected Fences 6 behavior. Once I realized I could disable that in Directory Opus settings, I assumed double clicking title bar to roll-up should just work in Fences.  When it didn't, I stumbled upon the ability to do it from the individual Fences group menus and rolled them up that way.  Hover to expand did work.

It had to be pointed out to me by basj that I needed to select the "Double click Fences titlebar to toggle roll-up" option in order for that to work.  I should have poked around more in both Directory Opus and Fences settings before reporting the issue as with a little RTFM I could have easily solved the problem.

Lynn Madsen, don't be down on yourself, please. No one 'gets' everything all at once. Asking for help is one big reason the forum exists.

basj has almost infinite patience. Stardock did really well to choose him and AzDude as Community Support Assistants. Anyhow, we're all happy everything works as it should and that you're happy with your purchase.

Got it! Noted. Yes we’ve considered adding some pop up notices for Opus and this is certainly something to consider. Likewise for if we notice Opus is no longer present or option is turned off. Thanks again for the detail and glad we we got it going

I should have added that I use DO as well for so many years that I forgot the config trick removing it for DO with the double click reserved for Fences.

I am not really down on myself as much as disappointed that I didn't take the time to go through the settings on my own.  For many years, I managed the technical support operations for a software company.  I committed the classic ID10T error of failing to read the manual.  :)

Yes, this support forum is great.  We just had people on phones back when I started in tech support in the 80s.
