Guard status hides Champion/Army

Why does putting Champion/Army into "Guard" status hide them on the unit/town lookup scroll bar?  Just to make me search the map because I can't remember where I put them?  Bad mechanic IMHO.

 I was wondering why all of a sudden I couldn't locate my heroes without a laborious search across the map.   Now I know!   Oh, yes I do strongly support your suggestion in case it wasn't clear.
