Improving AI

Hello.

I often read comments related to inappropriate AI behavior. Now it's my turn to tell a sad little story. I recently played for TEC against Vasari Alliance and Advent. The difficulty level was the highest. 'Home planet victrory' option was enabled. Two hours later I decided to visit Vasari. By the way, during this period of time Vasari probed me only once but they escaped in time. So, my fleet was on the move. Vasari's home planet was two phase jumps away from my asteroid. When my fleet was already in the backyard, Vasari's small fleet decided to greet me. This step was more wrong than right. The AI also detects any movement. I hope. At least any movement within two phase jumps. The relevant researches should have already been completed by that time. So, my fleet led by a titan was about three times the size of the fleet that the Vasari had deployed against me. But this fleet did not engage me. Vasari's ships silently flew past their planet, which was being destroyed by my fleet. Then another group of ships appeared and they also quickly fled somewhere. Attention! I was already near their home planet. So, without encountering any resistance, I ended up on their planet. I was greeted by a lone starbase and several turrets. That's it! I was very surprised when I did not find a phase gate in the gravity well. This is nonsense! The AI should think about this first. And this is the second such case in my memory. But the most interesting thing is ahead. Where was the main Vasari fleet when I flew up to their home planet? They were on the other side of the galaxy. The Vasari should have reacted instantly when my fleet began to move, being two phase jumps away from their home planet. For some unknown reason, they temporarily stopped and engaged in battle with the merchant caravans and their convoy. The gravity well was neutral. It belonged to Eivonn. They couldn't be stuck there.

In version 1.49.2, you fixed major AI issue that would cause the AI to forget its primary mission when encountering enemies in a gravity well it’s traveling through. Update 1.49.6 is cumulative, isn't it? Then why is this problem still relevant?

I played a little bit today. It was intense at first but then it got really boring. Why did it get boring? Because for the next two hours, no one attacked me. This problem becomes especially acute when there are more than three factions involved. The game should constantly keep you on your toes.

The Vasari attacked me three times. I repelled the first attack with great effort. The Vasari flew back to where they came from. Then I quickly built a starbase and waited fully armed for the next invasion. The Vasari were also well prepared. This time they sent about 50 frigates and 3 capital ships. A scout preceded their visit. It's programmed in such a way that the AI can correctly assess its chances of winning, right? So, initially, everyone is on an equal footing. But for some reason, the AI decided to attack, regardless of my starbase. A well-developed starbase is very difficult to destroy with a fleet like that. The battle didn't last long. The starbase began methodically destroying the enemy frigates. The Vasari decided to retreat. But this time they pleasantly surprised me. They flew off in a different direction. The ships moved to my other planet. This planet was defenseless. I had to rush to build turrets and ships to repel their attack. The carrier Sova was a huge help. The third attack was the most powerful but this time I was well prepared. The Vasari have an undeniable advantage at the start of the game. They have exotics. In just twenty minutes, they can build three capital ships. They take advantage of this. I built a phase jump inhibitor. The enemy fleet's behavior this time saddened me. The Vasari were in a losing position. Either the AI had misjudged my capabilities, or it didn't yet have information about the phase jump inhibitor in the gravity well. What would I have done in this situation? I would have tried to destroy the phase jump inhibitor first, just to save my fleet. Unfortunately, the AI didn't think of this. A sad fate awaited its fleet.

The Phase Jump Inhibitor is the highest priority target when the chances of winning are close to zero. It will be a little more difficult for people but the AI will get smarter and the gameplay will become more realistic.

I'd also like to say a few words about the Advents. Has anyone felt the effects of their superabilities? Unfortunately, I can't remember. They could make life very difficult for other factions. For example, there's a very good Unity ability called Chastise. When a huge enemy fleet invades, the Advents' AI should constantly use this ability.

Why doesn't the Advent AI use its unique Unity abilities? The answer is obvious. The Advent AI does not build Temples of Unity at all. Sadly. This definitely needs to be fixed.

I also discovered something very strange. I played for three hours. There were no orbital extractors on the enemy planets. Most likely, in the later stages of the game, the AI destroys extractors in order to build other structures.

This strange behavior was only noticed during a game against the Advent Wrath faction(Nightmare, Defensive).

I think that AI is again distracted from its main mission. The main mission is to capture the enemy's home planet, isn't it? The ships must follow their course and simply shoot back at their enemies. Unfortunately, this huge graveyard of ships proves the opposite. This strange behavior was not related to an alternative way of winning. There were plenty of stars there besides this neutron star.
