Cannot upgrade from Fences 5 to Fences 6

Fences 6 Upgrade

Hey,

I cannot even begin to upgrade from Fences 5 to Fences 6 nor can I uninstall the corrupt Fences 6 installation.

I had an issue today upgrading on another system also.  I had to completely uninstall and reinstall as it complained about a mismatch in versions for some of the assembly modules.  This system that I can do nothing with also started that way, but I can't even begin to uninstall it.

Can you tell me what processes can be killed in Task Manager so that I can manually delete and force the uninstall?

I seem to have similar problems every time we upgrade to a new Fences release?  This time on one particular machine is worse.

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. Please try purge and reinstall steps as mention here : [Link]. Just make sure to redownload the latest version from your account page. Reboot after the purge. Reinstall and reboot again after the installation. Retest and report back here.

Thank you,

Hey Basj,

That didn't work at all.  The batch file executed as expected, then it automatically launched the Installer to uninstall, then it ran into the issue where DLL assemblies are be locked by a process(s).

I should have shown the batch file exe results... still issues with locked files.

Hey,

I also ran the purge batch file twice and both times it fails the same.  The Fences app is still registered as an installed app.

Perhaps your Security system block it. Have you tried running the batch file with your Security system temporarily turn off?

I tried to install again over the corrupted install and this appears to have worked.

I noticed some Registry keys were not 'purged' by your purge process?

Perhaps, some of it get block by your security software.

Security software didn't block this.

This is a software development system and we develop/test batch files quite often!  Nothing gets blocked here.

I wonder if Sysinternals Process Explorer tool could help in this instance?

Looking at the screenshots, it seems Fences may not have been allowed to fully unload from the system, which could explain why some files remained locked—it was likely still active in the background.

I mentioned that something might be interfering with the unloading process. While it's hard to say for sure, a security setting is a strong possibility. Since I don’t have visibility into your system’s configuration, I suggested disabling the security software temporarily to test whether that makes a difference.

That said, since the core issue is now resolved, there’s no need to pursue it further.

Appreciate the follow-up!
