Current issues with Start11 v2

bugs

Hi,

I licenced and installed the newest version on Windows 11, and placed it on the right-hand side to hide itself automatically.

Now I observe the following issues:

- The desktop items are flickering

- A window which I move partly outside of the screen or within the taskbar "show" area will get moved to fit into the remaining desktop area

- When I move the mouse to trigger the taskbar to appear, several objects are often missing: Clock and symbol area, search area, and overview area

Please fix, that's really annoying. I can temporarily fix it by restarting explorer.exe but it will come back.

Thanks in advance

Dirk

First to make sure Start11 get properly install, Please try, uninstall Start11, reboot immediately (important), download latest version available in your account product download page: https://store.stardock.com/myaccount/products.  Install it, reboot immediately again. Retest it and report back.

If the issues still there, need few more details please.

  1. Windows full version and OS Build number. Please use Winver.exe to get these numbers.
  2. Start11 full version numbers.
  3. Post videos showing us the issue so we understand it better.

What other software are you using?  Anything which might alter or extend the taskbar or explorer?

Hello Basj and Neil,

yes, I performed a clean re-install before. Note that I usually work with a non-admin account.
I'm using a lot of software, however none of them alters or extends the taskbar.

Ok, I recorded a short video now (size 4MB), how can I upload to you or a source that you can access? Also note the WiFi icon is upside down (I believe only when flickering happens, not always!)
My versions:
- Windows 11 24H2 (Build 26100.6899) (Home)
- Start 11: v2.56 (contents on this window also flicker however I could not record it so far)

Best regards
Dirk

If the video format is .gif you can upload directly by using any one of these two buttons.

If its a full video file, you can upload to any video sharing site, make it public and post its link here in the forum.

Ok, pls. find the videos here (valid until Nov 16th): https://www.transfernow.net/dl/20251109g0Tmtjx3

it *could be* that the flickering is caused in conjunction with the Spyder 3 software by Datacolor, at least it started today when this program changed the color profile of the graphics card. I also noted that the color profile is reset when I clicked in the notification area of the taskbar. (In the past, this happened only when opening the WiFi dialogue.)

Note that I have two graphics cards:

  • Intel UHD Graphics
  • NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Laptop GPU

Hope it helps

Dirk

I've watch the video and I noticed the flickering is on the Shortcut overlays for the desktop icons. I don't believe those flickering directly from Start11. Perhaps some other application causing it. Would like to suggest Clean boot and see if you can find the actual issue. Refer here for Clean boot Steps: https://support.stardock.com/space/SHC/1334935592/Start11+Clean+Boot. Do note that Clean boot need to be done with care. Please try it and report back.

Quite complicated. Instead I uninstalled Start11, and now (checked several times) there is
- no flickering,
- no disappearing symbols,
- no window moves,
- no WiFi icon upside-down.
That means, it is related with your tool. Pls. check.

However, the "reset of the color profile when selecting the area WiFi-Speakers-Akku" persists. Not related to your tool.

Hi,
Please try performing the clean boot steps as previously mentioned. This helps us check whether any background applications might be causing a conflict with Start11 resulting the flickering issue.

So far, we haven’t seen this same issue reported by other users recently.

Since you're on Windows 11 Home, Windows Sandbox isn’t available—but if you have access to another device running Windows Pro, testing it there could help confirm whether the issue is environment-specific.

Thank you!

Yes, I did that (again) and now the issues are back. And no, I do not have access to a Win 11 Pro machine.
For me, flickering is quite similar to "not displayed", and then drawn. However, the self-moving of windows is the most annoying thing!

Where can I find the v1,when I remember it was better?

Unfortunately, Start11 v1 no longer available for purchase after Start11 v2 was released. But, if you actually purchased Start11v1 before as individual license, it should appear in your account product download area: https://store.stardock.com/myaccount/products

Ok, I started with v2. Is there an older v2 version that I can try?

Were you able to observe the same errornous behavior on your side?

No, we don't see this issue and I believe if this issue is an actual bug, we should see more report from other user with this same issue.

Hi Basj,

I am experiencing identicle symptoms, and have found the exact same conclusion. When uninstalling Start11, the issues subside entirely, restarting explorer.exe stops the issue for roughly 10-20 mins and my applications if snapped to full screen vertically will either move to the left as if the application is re-opening and then if all the way to the left will resize itself until it cannot shrink any more.

Additionally, my system tray will flicker and jolt up and to the right slightly and then go back to its original position repeatedly. I have also seen the same issue where the wifi icon will be drawn upsidedown.

I have ran procmon and found alot of explorer related changes happening related to stardock. Would we be able to arrange some kind of a call to discuss?

To add to this I have also stripped other software from my machine and disabled apps from starting up while I was troubelshooting and this issue is directly related to Start 11, I believe after a windows update this has broken the app
