CursorFX will not start

I have been using CursorFX for years on my PC with no problems, but all of a sudden now it (CursorFX.exe) won't start. I am using Windows 10 with the latest updates and have done all of the following: completely uninstalled the program, then downloaded and installed the latest version that is posted (2.16), start as administrator, ran DISM and System File checker (scannow) to find and repair any corrupted files. None of them worked. I thought I would use System Restore to restore my PC to a month ago, but NO restore points are listed except one for Nov, 2nd, at which time the problem was already here. I did not reset or reinstall Windows so I have no idea why no earlier restore points are listed because there were earlier ones there before.

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. Perhaps need to move to latest CursorFX version 4 for best compatibility with current Windows 10 and 11. Do note that CursorFX 4 do have 30 days free trial. Try that and see if you still see the same issue.

Thank you for such a quick response, basj! Installing v.4 did the trick and it starts fine now. What I need now is for it to have a search box where you can go to and apply cursors you have saved on your hard drive. I have a lot of them in the correct folder under Users, but can't see a way to get to them in the program. I don't remember how I added them before.

Have you tried copy it over to this directory? C:\Users\Public\Documents\Stardock\CursorFX\Themes. Perhaps need to restart CursorFX to see it get listed in CursorFX. From what I know it should take .CursorFX and .CurXPTheme files.

That's the folder they are all in, and it has both .CursorFX and .CurXPTheme files. Just posted to the thread "Installed cursors not showing up in CursorFX" where pelaird said the last cursor file (alphabetically listed) in that folder wouldn't show up in the app list for him, and I had the same issue with this one I particularly wanted but couldn't make appear when double-clicking it after I reinstalled the program (which is why I proposed a search box within the app). Turned out there was a bizarre issue with it being the last file in that folder. Maybe we will hear over in that thread if anyone else has experienced this.

I believe this is known issue and currently a work around is to copy a dummy cursor file into the CursorFX theme folder and rename it to force it to appear as the last one in the list in alphabetically order. This will force the last actual cursor to show up on CursorFX list. On my system I just duplicate a cursor file and rename it to ZZCopy.CursorFX.

Many thanks, Basj, easy but brilliant. I've added a screen snip of your tip to my Cursors folder, program zip, and a bunch of other places so I'll never lose it.
