Copy Paste Issue

Since about 2-3 weeks, copy-pasting works fine when copying from the secondary computer into the primary, but not copying from the primary and pasting into the secondary. When pasting onto the secondary, there is sometimes a momentaneous slight freeze. It may be related to the 4.07 update, but that could just be a coincidence.

I have taken all steps indicated in: https://support.stardock.com/space/SHC/1287454780/Multiplicity+Drag-drop+Copy-Paste+Issues, including running the batch file, disabling the firewall, ensuring that the app has firewall access, rebooting, uninstalling the software on both computers and reinstalling.

Both computers are running Windows 11 on a private network, and the latest version of Multiplicity. Neither Clipboard History nor Cloud Clipboard are enabled.

Can you help?

This means the secondary is unable to connect into the primary for the clipboard data.

Typically this would be a firewall issue on the primary or the use of some sort of VPN tool on the secondary that is messing with packets.

For example Tailscale will cause this.

Thanks. Do you have any other ideas? There is no active VPN on either machines, and unless there are other firewall setups to look at, other than the ones on the article above, we may have exhausted that possibility too. Both computers are on the same network too.

Copy/paste worked fine on my machines until now. The change that occurred was the computers were updated from Winows 11 24H2 to 25H2. Copy/paste does not work in either direction - there is no copy/paste at all. KVM connections still work normally in other ways.

Edit: I was able to uninstall 25H2 from the primary and secondary going back to 24H2. Copy/paste now works again.

Does it detect the clipboard contents and offer paste?

Typically this would be a problem with firewall settings.  The computer you are doing the paste from has to be able to connect to the other computer.  So it would be a firewall issue on the computer which is the source of the clipboard data.

Did not change any firewall settings. I uninstalled the update, then reinstalled it. Can now copy/paste.

I updated to Windows 11 2025H2 and still facing the issue. I however agree that it is related to firewall. A refresh on my problem: I can copy from the secondary to the primary, but not the other way around. Clipboard history, and hence cloud clipboard are off.

I am able to work around this issue if I turn off the firewall on the primary. I have tried the MPPortFix a few times, even manually deleted all the Multiplicty rules manually from the firewall settings at some point (the rules are back in there now). Hence, I conclude there is something else the secondary is trying to access from the primary and there is some other rule preventing it. Can you send me some suggestions on what other firewall rules to look into? Also should I be looking into Inbound vs Outbound rules?

Edit: I ended up restoring the defaults on the firewall of the primary, re-running the MPPortFix, and all problems went away. I can now copy-paste to-from both machines.
