Shutting down the remote computer

When using Seamless mode. When I tell the remote computer to shutdown, the mouse curser is stuck on the remote computer and will not return to the primary computer, even when the remote computer is finished powering down.
The only way to recover is to logout of the primary computer and log back in
I do have the shift key active to move between computers.
I did try setting up a hotkey to switch back to the primary, but it messes up both the mouse and keyboard input. I can move the curser around, but the clicks do strange things
am I missing something like a setting or a hot key?
