Start11 2.55 Release Feedback

With the Start11 2.55 release today, we are creating this thread so that users can report any observed issues.  

Obtaining the product

Object Desktop members can get the release from within Object Desktop Manager

Reporting an issue

Please include the following for anything found:

  • Exact Windows version \ build (winver.exe)

  • Detailed steps to recreate the issue seen

  • Screenshots and videos are very helpful.  Videos can be uploaded to a cloud drive service (GoogleDrive, DropBox, OneDrive, YouTube), with a shared link included in your post.  Images can be copied and pasted directly into a post.

  • If there are specific apps that the app does not work (well) with, please note what apps and their exact versions.  If any app is not common, a link to a trial version would be appreciated.

Since installing windows update KB5066835, taskbar pins are really slow to load if they load at all. Sometimes after starting my computer I have to click on the task bar to get them to load, other times it takes a good minute or two for them to load after boot. This just started happening after installing KB5066835 (regular OS patch cadence), KB5066131 (.NET cumulative update) and KB5068331 (.NET security update for x64 client).

It's workable at the moment, but I think the latest windows update did something that isn't playing well with start 11 or it was the .NET update if you're using .NET.

Sorry to hear you are having issues. Please try, uninstall Start11, reboot immediately (important), download latest version v2.56 beta available in your account product download page: https://store.stardock.com/myaccount/products. Install it, reboot immediately again. Retest it and report back.

I was using Start 11 for a vertical taskbar on the left for a couple months but recently (past week+) it's continually crashing and restarting anytime I interact with it beyond clicking a taskbar item (to focus on a window).

Start button? Crashes

Right click to configure Start 11 with context menu? Crashes

Anyone have a clue? im on most recent version as of this post: 2.55

It's odd because I can us the taskbar and start menu, but when I click away it loses focus and crashes.

Yeah, I’ve been seeing similar things, had it crash twice on system boot yesterday. It’s the latest Windows updates I think. I’m going to try the beta start 11 later when I get a chance after work.

Can you update to the 2.56 beta please.

If that doesn't work we will give you some instructions to make a dmp file so we can investigate further as thats not normal.

  Hi,

  I just bought another license to install on my new Lenovo Yoga 9i Pro Aura edition and I run into a problem, I hope someone can help:

  • When no windows is opened, the search button and the System Trays Icons are smaller and shown below the pinned icons on the Task Bar
  • If any window is opened, the Search Button and the System Tray Icon disappear

  I am running Win 25H2 -- The resolution of the screen is 4K with 200% scaling.   I tried both versions 2.5.5 and the beta 2.5.6 to no avail

Sorry to hear you are having issues. First, to make sure Start11 get properly install. Please try these steps, uninstall Start11, reboot immediately (important), download latest version available in your account product download page: https://store.stardock.com/myaccount/products. Install it, reboot immediately again. Retest it and report back.

If the issue still appear. Perhaps this is unique issue to your Lenovo Yoga. Please create your own thread so we can help you better there.

Also, please provide few more details.

  1. Windows 11 25H2 OS Build number. Please use Winver.exe to get the OS Build number.
  2. Post screenshot showing us your issue so we understand it better.
  3. Do you have any other application running that change something on your taskbar etc. Perhaps Lenovo add some special software that add something to your taskbar or Start menu.

The beta has fixed the issue, also I haven't had start 11 crash either so far.
