Fences snapping philosophy...

Hi.

What is the idea behing Fences snapping to self and desktop?
Is there a grid that can be adjusted somewhere?
or spaces between Fences and portals vertically and horizontally.

I would like it to be nice and even but some spaces done with built in snapping look just bad.

I know i can use shift to disable snapping but if it is that bad as it is what is its purpose in the first place?

It seems very random...

Thank you.

I have been using those settings but still it does not behave as it should. It seems like simple issue to fix (do it right)
Looking forward to having more customisation options soon.

Strange, I created new sets of Fences and I can manage to align those Fences pretty okay for me.

This is what I get if I set at 10 pixel as you did above.

Not sure why your video shows that Fences "two" jump up, Fence "three" align properly. Try removing Fence "two" and recreate it, does it behave the same as before?

Also, do you have many Fences pages?

I am not using pages at all.

The issue I am having is that some Fences snap ok but others not.
What kind of grid is used to snap fances. is it Fances grid or Windows grid that is being used?

Need to know few details.

  1. Windows 10 or 11? Also need its full version and OS Build number. Please use Winver.exe to get these numbers.
  2. Fences full version number.
  3. Monitor/s resolution and Scale factor (100%, 125%, 200% etc)
  4. If you're using 2 or monitors, does the issue appear on specific monitor etc.

Please try purge and reinstall steps as mention here : [Link]. Just make sure to redownload the latest version from your account page. Reboot after the purge. Reinstall and reboot again after the installation. Retest and report back here.

What Purge will do? Will I loose all my settings? I have lots of shortcuts stored in several fences.

The purge will removed Fences from your system. But, the saved layout should still be there. Just to be sure, you can backup this folder: C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Stardock\Fences\Backups.

Hi CzarnaMamba thanks for sharing this.

The snapping feature snaps to all groups on the screen as to help with alignment even if they are spaced apart. I’ve forwarded to the team for consideration on how this could work better based on the specific example you’ve shown.

In the video you shared, it is jumping to be in line with a fence that is further away on the left or right correct?
